It was such a sunny, breezy morning. The birds were chirping their songs, never getting bored, accompanied by the murmur of the leaves of the trees they were sitting on. Cars were passing by, everyone hurrying to somewhere, everyone with their own work. The life in Hartford, despite the early hours, has long awoken.

A pair of heels were clattering on the stone paths in Elisabeth Park. Amira Reyes was rushing through the flower fields and the big trees, green with some orange and yellow freckles, hinting for the upcoming autumn. The girl was in a hurry: classes have already started and until she got to school, she was gonna be super late for class.

"You're off to a great start of your first day at your new school, Amy!" she thought ironically.

School started three days ago, but she arrived here at Hartford yesterday evening. She had lived at New York her entire life with her mom and dad, but there were countless family problems since she was a little girl. Things didn't seem THAT bad, however when it turned out Amy's father was in a relationship with another woman, her mom, Vanessa, had finally snapped. A few days ago the couple divorced. Her father stayed in New York with his girlfriend while Amy and her mother had to move out of the big city and go somewhere more affordable.

And so there she is here, rushing to Hartford Public High School. She turned right onto Prospect Ave, her heels clattering fast and the wind running trough her golden hair, her slight waves jiggling around her freckly face.

"Why did I have to oversleep on my first day?!"

Amy and her mom arrived at their small apartment in West Hartford late at the evening. After all the unpacking, cleaning, mopping and getting ready for bed, the women didn't fall asleep until about 1am. When you sum it up with the fatigue from the long day, the girl's alarm ended up completely ignored.

Amy quickly turned onto Farmington Ave. She was staring at the navigation on her phone, trying not to get lost in the new city. The sound her heels made when they met the groung was echoing in her head.

She walked for long on the street, which was getting busier as each minute passed. With every step she was becoming more worried: not that she was gonna be late, but for meeting all the new people at school. Are they gonna like her? Will she fit in? Would they ignore her? Like... in her previous school? Will she still be bullied and made fun of? The memories of her classmates' torture haunted her still, in her nightmares, and just the thought made her feel sick.

"Stop thinking like this, Amy. They cannot know about you... so there is no need for them to judge me." she reassured herself. After a few more minutes she looked back at her phone.

"So.... here, do I turn left? Or right? Right, yes, right."

Amy rushed through the principal's door, forgetting to knock. She was already 15 minutes late. The man inside startled at first, then welcomed her with a death stare.

"And you must be Amira Reyes." he mumbled annoyed.

The girl was staying at the door and blushing. Sometimes, she wondered what exactly was wrong with her.

"Y-yes, sir.", she responded, "And I am very sorry for rushing in like that... I-I was just so late and.."

"No... It's fine." the principle smiled. "I know you just arrived at our city and were probably a bit lost."

"Yeah.... lost...." Amy mumbled, remembering how calmly she was sleeping through her alarm this morning.

"Well I am principal Chatterton. I am more than pleased to meet you, miss Reyes, and welcome to Hartford High School!" the man smiled and reached out his hand. He got a quick hand shake and a smirk from the girl.
