Starting Out New

I was grounded. For a week. It ended the day we had to start at the new school. I hadn't been out of the house for a week. I had only texted Michael a few times; I didn't talk to Zayn the whole time I was grounded. But I had told Taylor about the apartment thing. She said that she would try to tell my mom and dad what really happened, but I wouldn't let her.

My mom and dad had both come in my room later on in the week to tell me that they didn't want any of us hanging out with Zayn. But to be completely honest, I wasn't listening to them the whole time. My mind was blank during their entire conversation. My mind was blank the whole week. Except for Zayn, whom of which was lingering in the back of my mind the every time someone would talk to me.

The day we started school was rainy.

I'm not a rainy day person. So I decide to where what I consider rainy day clothes; somewhat baggy long sleeve shirt, jeans, boots, and a scarf.

If any stranger saw me they'd think it was freezing outside, but honestly I couldn't care less.

Taylor comes into my room, and I could tell I was going to be lectured.

"What are you wearing?" She half screams at me. She continues before I can answer.

"A brand new school and you are choosing to wear," she gestures to my outfit. "That?" she pauses as if she was waiting on me to answer.

"Well..." I start but then, once again she cuts me off.

"You are going to be single for the rest of your life." She says. I wait for her to stop so I can speak, but, not surprisingly, she interrupts when I open my mouth.

"Is that what you want?" she waits for me to answer.

"Can I talk this time?" I ask.

"No, no you can't. Cause you are going to die alone."

I shake my head tiredly.

"I don't care." I say truthfully.

There was a vast gray sky outside and all I wanted to do was sleep.

"Whatever, let's just go. We have to walk." She says pulling me out of my room. Before I get dragged out I grab my backpack which was heavy, as if it was filled with rocks.

"I don't know what took you so long but now you don't have time for breakfast." My mom says, pushing us away from the kitchen before we can get anything to eat. Taylor groans. I could tell that she wasn't going to be very happy very long without food.

"Jayden already left so you need to get going." She says handing us both an umbrella.

"Have a good day bye." She says shoving us out the door and closing it behind us.

"She must really want to get rid of us." Taylor says opening her umbrella.

I open mine as well and walk off the porch.

"Yeah, I think we stress her out." I say.

"We aren't stressful." Taylor says following me.

We look at each other and then burst into laughter.

"Oh we are such pains." I say between breaths. We start walking down the sidewalk and the rain lightens up a little.

We finally end up at, what I'm guessing was, the school.

I close my umbrella and shove into my bag. Taylor puts hers in my bag as well.

Once we walk through the door I could tell that this school was nothing like the kind I was used to.

*******

I automatically take notice to the noise. Bradford may be kind of small but it was still much bigger than I was used to.

I then notice the many different types of people. I could already distinguish the cliques; the nerds, the bad influences, the loud ones, the jocks, the class clowns, the fighters, the addicts, the pranksters, the antisocial, the snobs, the hipsters, the airheads, the readers, and what I guess you would call the hippies.

As shameful as it is to say, the first thing that came to my mind was where I would fit in.

I am snapped away from my thoughts when I realize that everyone in the building was staring at me and Taylor. I immediately feel self-conscious and to be honest absolutely terrified. Taylors hand flies up to my arm and grips it.

I look over to her and see that she looked like she was going to pass out. I probably didn't look too much better.

We start making our way down the hallway. The people don't take their eyes away from us and just barely make enough room for us to walk through.

A tall blonde girl sticks her leg out right in front of Taylor, a split second before she takes her next step.

Taylor loses her grip on my arm and falls to the ground, the contents of her bag spilling everywhere.

The girl who tripped Taylor puts her hand up to her mouth.

"OMG! I am so clumsy! Oh My Gawsh! Whoops! Sorry about that love! I would offer you my hand but I don't know you." She smiles. Her smile was so sweet I swear I was gonna get a cavity.

I bend down and start picking up Taylors stuff and putting it back in her bag.

I honestly couldn't believe that this was happening. Like come on people, this isn't Mean Girls. This was no doubt going to be a different day. You know what; scratch that, a different year.
