Z's POV
I knew about the damn link. Had we known it would result in her being changed we wouldn't have done it. We've tried changing women in the past and they've never survived it. Now I have to endure my mate screaming in agony, with no way of stopping it. The only thing I can do is be there for her. I sat in the chamber watching as she twisted, the sound of her bones snapping and reforming echoing off the stone walls. Axel and Talos stood outside by the door, listening to their Lady go through hell. This was their way of torturing themselves for not saving her brothers sooner. I didn't blame them for this though. My beast did though. It was putting us at odds, making us split which wasn't good.
I thought back to the memories I had with her. She was a beauty that I wanted to be mine. Her heart and her mind were both glorious things. I wanted to get to know every part of her mind. Was this the kind of love she was talking about?
I looked at her, covered in sweat. Her nose had blood running down it, and blood on the corner of her lips from when she coughed up blood. She had tried to give us a smile that said she was gonna be okay, but we all knew she wouldn't be. She was in agony and I had no choice but to just sit here and watch her. Silver told me I shouldn't watch her, but I wanted someone who cared about her to be with her. She doesnt deserve to die alone.
When she was fully shifted I stared at her in awe. She had midnight fur that looked soft to the touch. She was panting really hard. I felt a psychic nudge to my mind and I let her in.
She's gonna survive it, an ancient feminine voice told me.
I leaned my head back, relief slamming into me. Tears burned my eyes.
I watched her begin to shift back, until she laid on the floor, naked, and panting. "Fuck that hurt," she groaned softly. I gathered her into my arms and held her. "We didn't think you'd make it," I told her. "I know. She told me none of the women in the past has survived the change," she whispered her voice hoarse from screaming. "Its cause their beast killed them, not wanting to be bound to someone they saw as weak." She sighed, "God I'm so hungry." "For," I asked her. "Blood," she whispered. "I need both food and blood to survive, but because we're mated, I can only feed from you. It will finish the mating if I do."
I felt the weight of it hit me and I knew I wanted it more than anything. "I thought I was going to loose you," I told her, my hands brushing away the hair that was plastered to her skin because of sweat. She looked at me and licked her lips before she was kissing me. I groaned before taking control. I then heard the door open and pulled away.
"S-She lived," Cherif asked in shock. She buried her face in my neck, and I moved my arms so that way they covered some of her. I growled and he vanished instantly. I then felt her fangs bite into my flesh and I groaned softly. She drank until she was full then licked the wound closed. I felt her mark take its place on my neck. I took my shirt off and put it on her. I stood with her in my arms and carried her out of the chamber.
She fell asleep as I carried her up the stairs. I got to the foyer and everyone was waiting, including her brothers who looked like they just woke up. "She's alive and will survive. She's just tired."
"She completed the mating," Axel said, noting the mark on my neck. I nodded, "She did." I then carried her up to my room and laid her down. I covered her with a blanket before grabbing another shirt and slipping it on. I was fully mated to her now, and that settled a peace within my beast and I.
I slipped from the room and went found them all still gathered. Even Violet was there, hanging close to Silver. "So how come she lived and others haven't," Axel asked me. "Their beasts killed them because they were seen as weak," I answered. "At least that's what her and her beast told me."
"Makes sense. Florence was a big cry baby," Talos muttered. "We just now need to wait and see how it affects all three of them," Silver said and I nodded. It was going to get interesting.
Alanna's POV
I rolled over, my head feeling as if it was having a hammer slam into it. I sat up and could feel my beast stirring. Gamora, she said her name was. My senses were heightened, and I could hear every little thing around the house. Especially my brothers arguing. They're trying to figure out who is stronger, she told me. I didn't really give a shit, they woke me up.
I noticed my things had been moved into Z's room and put on some pajama bottoms before leaving the room. I found them at the bottom of the stairs. Many of the others were watching them. "You two are really loud and annoying," I grumbled, throwing them each a glare. They shut up instantly. "How do you feel," Z asked me. "I have a pounding headache," I told him. "Its because your magic has refilled and it overflowing, trying to adjust to the new amount you possess," He explained. He took my hand and took me to the kitchen.
I winced at the sound of him pulling out a pan, "God that is so loud." "So your hearing is much strong than ours," he noted softly. "I can hear everything, going on and I wish I couldn't," I said while putting my elbows on the island, my hands over my ears. I watched as he began to cook French toast, bacon, and sausage. I love a man that can cook.
To be honest I loved him. He sat there, every second with fear, love, and pain in his eyes as he watched me go through hell. He thought I was going to die and he wanted to make sure I didn't die alone. Verbally he may not be able to express it, but that's okay with me. Actions speak louder than words. Plus Gamora would've killed me for taking her from her mate. That was a deal we had to make for her to let me live. Yes, being seen as weak was part of the reason the other women didn't survive it, but it was also because the women didn't truly love the men who would've been their mates, just using them for power and title. Of course I wasnt gonna tell them that, because who knows, they may actually still feel something for those women.
"God you're an ass!" I heard Violet yell. I growled softly as my headache hit me sharply. "Me?" I heard Silver scoff. "You are the one I'm talking to aren't you," She snapped. "They've been at it for days," Z told me. "In a few minutes they'll fuck each other's brains out."
"Didnt think goth was Silver's type," I mumbled while rubbing my temples. God make the pounding stop. I heard them get closer to the kitchen and they stopped fighting when they saw me. "If you cant be quiet, then go somewhere else," I told them. "Her magic is still settling and her hearing is more enhanced than ours. So go somewhere pretty far if you wish to argue," Z told them, keeping his voice low.
I then heard a loud crash due to my brothers fighting. I growled and sent a wave of magic, that shook the windows. It helped lessen the pressure in my head. The house then became deadly quiet and I sighed softly. Z chuckled softly but didn't say anything. "I think it best we make ourselves scarce," Silver said while pulling on Violet's arm. "Dont tell me what the hell to do," She seethed. I used my magic to throw them out of the kitchen. I had moved the couch for Violet to land on, but Silver hit the wall.
"Point taken," I heard Violet muttered. After that, the entire house stayed quiet which made me happy. Z sat down my food in front of me. "Thank you," I told him. He kissed my head before making my coffee. I ate quietly, feeling the pressure beginning to build up again. "How long will it take to adjust," I asked him. "Depends your level of magic. You already had a massive amount," he said while placing my coffee in front of me. "I imagine it's more than tripled that so it may take a week. I recommend you not use your magic and let it continue to overflow so you can get use to the maximum amount you possess." "Meaning everyone gets to deal with a moody woman until I'm no longer in pain," I told him. He nodded, "Pretty much." I sighed and took a drink of my coffee.
Let's pray I dont try to kill someone.
