Sophie's POV
The thing I love most about lunch at our high school is the fact that they serve Coke products every Monday and have ice cream available on Fridays. Our school's lunch menu isn't your average kind of lunch menu either.
Monday is meatball and spaghetti day, Tuesday is obviously Taco Tuesday, Wednesday is wasabi chicken day, Thursday is thin crust pizza Thursday, and Friday is fry-day and the fries are served with a burger. Throughout the week, there's a full salad bar and a smoothie bar in our cafeteria along with two vending machines full of drinks and snacks which are always available to purchase.
Luckily Drew, Josh, Aly, and I have the same fourth period otherwise I would've been alone at lunch the entire year.
Aly munches on her potato chips while Josh scrolls through his phone intensely. Drew just continues eating his spaghetti.
"So when's your first football game?" I ask breaking the silence.
"This Friday at 6 o'clock." Josh replies, not even bothering to look up from his phone.
"Well, Aly and I will most definitely be there to support." I assure the two boys.
"Coach says I'm the best linebacker that the school's ever had." Drew brags.
"Woah now, watch the cockiness." I tease.
"Shut up, you're legit the best female lacrosse player that this school has ever had alongside the best female basketball player so be quiet." He tries to make a point but fails.
"Maybe in your eyes but I'm not cocky enough to even admit something like that." I shrug.
"She's right, Andrew. You're acting like Matt Lewis right now." Aly rolls her beautiful blue eyes.
"You're so annoying, Carter." Drew slouches in his chair at the lunch table.
"Right back at ya, Bazzi." She winks.
"Josh, you alright?" I ask shyly.
"What was that, Sophie?" Josh looks up from his phone quickly.
"I asked if you were alright." I chuckle.
"Oh yeah, I'm fine. I'm just texting this girl from East Lansing High." Josh smirks.
"Spill." Alyssa all of a sudden gets interested.
"So, her name's Lexi and she's a dirty blonde with brown eyes and she's really hot and she's transferring here in a few weeks." Explains Josh.
"That's great. Can't wait to meet her." I smile and so does Aly.
"She says she can't wait to meet all of you either. I tell her so much about y'all." Josh blushes.
"You really like this girl, huh?" Andrew teases.
"I guess so. She's just like every other girl here at Plymouth. Nothing too special." He shrugs like it's nothing.
"Well, I'm going to go hang out with my field hockey friends. I'll see you guys later." Aly grabs her lunch bag and gets up.
"I'm going to go hang with my football squad." Josh also says getting up.
I wave the two goodbye and then turn towards Andrew.
"Stay?" I pout.
"Nah, I made plans with the football team. Later?" He stands up and then sits back down as a joke.
"Haha, very funny." I laugh sarcastically.
"What happened to your lax girls?" He questioned.
"They're not in this shift. Well, Delaney and Harper are but they're seniors and I mostly talk to the junior and sophomore girls." I tell him.
"Aww, I love your dedication towards our friend group." He admires.
"It's been just us four since the end of 5th grade. Why change that now?" I say just before the bell rings.
"You're right." We both stand up and start walking to English class.

After school, I race on over to the diner to get a couple hours of work in. I need to go shopping this weekend for some new warmer clothes even though it's the end of September. It starts getting chilly up here in Michigan around the middle of October.
I walk in and see the same guy from last night at the bar area.
"What brings you back here?" I greet him.
"Jim's offered me a job. Today I'm training and tomorrow is my first official day." He replies.
"I never caught your name." I tell him, fixing my uniform.
"Jacob. My name's Jacob." He smiles a grateful smile.
"Well, hello, Jacob! I'm Sophie." I introduce myself with a cheerful smile and attitude.
"Don't you go to Plymouth?" He asks eyeing me.
"Yeah, how'd you uh know?" I look at him with a confused look written on my face.
"My twin sister knows your friend Josh." He chuckles at my confused self.
"Weird question but who's your sister?" I ask unsure.
"Lexi. She goes to East Lansing with me but we're transferring soon to Plymouth." He explained.
"That explains everything now." I accidentally say out loud.
"Huh?"
"Sorry, nevermind." I mumble and start my shift.
Just as I start, Josh walks in with Andrew and some dirty blonde girl.
I decide to skate over.
"Hey, what're you guys doing here?" I ask.
"Just showing Lexi around. She's going to apply to work here if she likes it." Josh tells me.
"Hey, Lexi. I'm Sophie." I smile at her.
"I've heard so much about you. I can't wait to start hanging out with you guys." She tells me.
"That's really sweet. We can't wait either." Says Josh winking at her.
"Can I get you guys seated?" I nod towards an open booth in the corner.
They all nod.
"So can I get any of you guys something-." I start to ask but then Andrew cuts me off.
"Actually, Josh and I work here so we can just get it ourselves, right, Josh?" He looks over to Josh who's staring at Lexi intensely.
"What?" Josh looks at him like he's stupid.
"Wow, you're so observant," he rolls his blue eyes at Josh, "and you want to be a cop." He picks up the menu.
"I'll give you guys some time to think." I slowly skate away before getting told to come back and so I do.
"Yes?"
"Three waters and three plates of pancakes please." Josh smirks like an idiot.
"You guys better tip well." I joke before skating away.
And let's leave it at that.
