Two generations face to face
Both back up
And off they race
To the top
To the north
Back to the times
Of their births
Their eyes the same
Their smiles too
Separated only
By time
Times two—
When your heart's in your throat
And the bit's in your teeth
When you have to chew through steel
To get what you need—
When all is done
And all is gone
Everything's left to fear!We trusted you
And built our wall
Upon your rock!Everyone is done
Everyone is gone
There's nothing left to sayWhen you are up
All will fall
And the blame is on you!—
The king is dying
The songbirds are silent
The nobles are lying
The knights have turned violent
The small kingdom waits
For its soon destruction
The prophets see fates
The peace is disrupted—
In the moonlight
In the rain
I have searched
I called your name
My light is fading
The lanterns
Are lighting—
Illegal voices
Murmuring low
Mutterings of
The trouble
They've seenIllegal voices
Whispering cold
Fear runs ragged
Through the
Dark streetsIllegal voices
Rasping out
Passing on hope
To the young
The untetheredIllegal voices
Rattling shakes
Blood pouring out
Streets run red
Rivers of ruinIllegal voices
Pleading cries
Hopes offered up
Dreams shattered
Broken lives—
But hey
then it would all be fine
it would all be fine
wouldn't it
wouldn't it
It would all be fine
it would all be fine
wouldn't it
wouldn't it
but no
you say
you cry
you lie
Because then we'd all think
differently
you can't believe
we think differently
differently
different
From you—
Son have I ever told you
How the sky came to be
How the birds came to fly
On wingsSon have I ever told you
How far the oceans go
How far the horizon
StretchesSon have I ever told you
The count of stars up high
The count of endless
Wonders—
All this life I've ever known
It's a long and empty road
Of all the stories I've been told
None have ever ended forever—
A wolf hunts in my spirit
A fearsome beast of ice
He stole the stars
To light my rooms
He took the shadows
To cover my floors
He sings to the moon
For my protection
To guide my feet
Each nightA wolf lives in my spirit
A majestic beast of frigid ice
Shadows dance like dying fire
The moon against dark skies
He calls the stars to earth
To show me how they shine
His eyes burn with dark mirth
When the wind's dances align
The moon he sings to at night
She who he composes for
The stars burn so ever bright
To listen to his stories of lore
