The next morning, Maddox answered her door simply to stop the incessant knocking that was compounded by her hangover. When she saw who was on the other side, she rolled her eyes and started to shut the door, but one big work boot stopped it from happening. She huffed and let go of the door to put a hand on her head.

"What do you want? I thought you were pretty clear last night."

Opie shrugged as he shut the door behind himself. "Yeah, well, since my wife isn't speaking to me, I thought maybe I needed to try again."

She shrugged then took a second, closer look at his face. "What happened to you? You look like you went ten rounds with Ali."

Opie snorted as he followed her into the kitchen and watched as she got two coffee cups down from the cabinet. "I wouldn't give him that much credit. I got some good hits in too." When she lifted a brow at that, he shrugged. "Your old man took exception to the way I treated you."

It was Maddox's turn to snort as she poured coffee in each cup and handed him one. "I don't have an old man."

Opie shook his head. "Yeah you do, you just have him on pause. Obviously, he's your old man because if not, he would have taken my side, like always. That's what best friends are supposed to do, right or wrong."

Maddox sighed and tilted her head to look at him. "Why are you here again?"

Opie sighed and set his cup down on the counter before crossing his arms over his chest. "To apologize. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have talked to you the way I did, but in my defense, that came out of left field."

Maddox nodded, copying his stance. "I get that, but... I want you to understand that I don't want anything. I just wanted to know you, that's all."

Opie nodded. "I get that." He leaned down and looked her in the eye with a small smile on his face. "I do. Maybe it won't be so bad to have a sister. I get to be the big brother."

Maddox rolled her eyes. "So you're going to help me with your dad?"

Opie grinned. "Our dad. I call him pop."

Maddox grinned back, not realizing that it was practically identical to his. "Pop. I'll keep that in mind."

Opie nodded. "I just have to figure out where and when to spring it on him. It's going to be difficult."

Maddox nodded. "I get that. We'll figure it out. It doesn't have to happen immediately. I'm not going anywhere."

Opie nodded. "Okay. We'll figure it out. I need to head into the shop. Got a lot going on today. I'll tell loverboy you said hi."

Maddox shook her head as she followed him to the front door. "I didn't say hi."

Opie chuckled as he walked out. "Sure you did."

Maddox stuck her tongue out at his back but grinned as he backed his motorcycle out of her driveway and took off. She shut the door and walked back through the house, deciding the turn off the coffee pot and go back to bed. When she entered the kitchen, she was shocked to find Mark leaning against the counter with a frown on his face.

"What the hell? How did you get in here?"

Mark shrugged. "It's not that hard to pick a lock, you know. Are you sleeping with all of the Sons now? Do you know how long I had to stand outside waiting on him to leave? I thought once that your neighbor spotted me."

Maddox shook her head and walked over, opening the back door. "You need to leave. Right now."

Mark stood up, nodding as he walked toward the door. Before she realized what was happening, he'd punched her in the face. "And you need to learn some fucking manners."

Jax ran through the doors of the ER, frantically looking for Donna and Venus. Opie was right behind him as he found them sitting in the corner with their heads together.

"What the hell happened?"

Donna looked at Jax then Opie, shaking her head. "She was attacked. It must have happened right after Opie left this morning. She called me... " She had to stop for a minute to gain her voice. "She was stabbed, Jax. Three times. Whoever it was beat the shit out of her too."

Jax cursed as Tig, Gemma, and Happy came walking into the waiting room. "How did they get in?"

Venus shook her head. "The police said that someone broke in." She looked at Tig gratefully when he sat down beside her. "Is there anyone else pretty sure who did this?"

Jax ran a hand through his hair before kicking a chair beside him. "Fuck! He threatened her! That day at school, he threatened her right in front of me, and I blew it off because I didn't think he had the fucking balls!"

Opie grabbed his arm as an elderly couple looked at them nervously. "Just calm down, alright? We'll get Juice on him."

Donna shook her head. "I'll just give you his address."

Opie shook his head as Gemma sat down beside her and took her hand. "Baby? If Mark did this, he's not going to be where the boys can find him right away."

A doctor came walking their way, an elderly man with a kind smile. "Are you with Ms. Turner?" When Jax nodded, he continued. "I'm Dr. Frost. Ms. Turner has lost a lot of blood, but we're giving her a transfusion so she should be good. Luckily, the stab wounds didn't affect any vital areas. Once she comes around, we'll let you back to visit."

Jax turned to Happy and nodded. "Get Juice on Mark. I want to know the second he finds something."

Happy nodded. "You gonna be here?"

Jax nodded. "Yeah, I'm not leaving."
