The Weekend

(First Saturday of the school year)

I was so glad I got to sleep in instead of waking up at 5 a.m. I looked over at the black alarm clock on my wooden nightstand, saw that it was 11:15 a.m. and sighed. I jumped out of bed and went downstairs.

I walked into the kitchen and turned on the Keurig to get heated up. I turned around and saw a note on the marble counter. Great. Thanks mom.

           N-

I left early today because I was called for an early shift and I won't be home till later. One of my new coworkers is taking me out to dinner, how sweet of him, hmm? I left $30 under this, order yourself Chinese or something. Don't let all of the guys come over. If you want Dustin over that's okay but not all of them.

                  Love you lots, Mommy xx

I hated when she did this. When my dad died from alcohol poisoning she wasn't one of those wives that's like "he was the one, I'll never find anyone else." She's the type that's "Hey how are you? I'm single? Would you like to take me out? Oh by the way I have a 17 yr old daughter." Not that my father and I ever got along anyways. I just didn't get the whole concept of love.

I made myself a cup of coffee and an omelet and ate breakfast by myself. Well other than my puppy, Harley. Harley was an Australian Shepherd that was only 5 months old. He wasn't as big as he was going go get but gahhh I love him. He was a Christmas present from Dustin. I was surprised my mom actually let Dustin get me a dog!

I'm the one that takes care of him of course. He is my responsibility. I walk him all the time and we go on jogs on the weekends. I pay for the dog food and clean up after him. He loves riding shot gun in the jeep and ugh, those bright blue eyes could melt your insides.

Harley jumped up on the leather couch next to me and put his head on my lap. Too damn cute. I put on ESPN and just sat there for about 2 hours.

 ...

I got up when I got a knock at the door. It was John. He looked nervous, like he needed to get something off of his chest. He was pacing my front porch quickly.

I invited him in and he walked straight to the leather couch and sat down. I closed the door which echoed through the whole living room since the ceilings were so high.

John looked up at me. "I'm going crazy. I can't stand it, and I know you're not big in this relationship stuff but I knew the other guys would laugh at me if I came to them for this.." He said.

"Dude. Breathe a little. Okay tell me what's going on, I'll try my best to help." I replied trying not to laugh at how stupid he looked.

"Okay you know your friend Noelle? Well I've fallen for her big time. I can't stand acting like I don't just want to lift her off her feet and carry her out of the classroom. She always catches me looking at her but I get to embarrassed to talk to her. Please help me Nic! I don't know what to say or do when I'm around her and I act like a complete idiot around her." He looked at me now, practically begging me with puppy dog eyes.

"Well for starters you know I'm not good with this kind of stuff. I've never had a boyfriend or anything  like that. My best bet for you is to just go up and introduce yourself to her. Noelle always tells me how girls would rather the guy make the first move. Ask her a fee questions, offer to take her out to a wrestling mat-"

"NIC YOU DONT TAKE A GIRL TO A WRESTLING MATCH AS A DATE." Now he seemed even more nervous.

"Okay take her to Panera. She's loves that shit. It'll be easy. Just remember to keep asking her questions so that she knows your interested in her I guess."

He actually seemed to have brightened up a bit. He regained self control and we just sat there in silence for a few moments. He broke the silence.

"You know. You aren't that bad when it comes to this stuff. Maybe, only if you want, have Noelle help you with this kind of stuff. Thank you so much! You've saved my love life!" He got up and walked towards the door.

                 What a dork.

We said our goodbye and he was on his way. Back to ESPN. I made some frozen sausage pizza in the oven and invited over Dustin. By this time it was about 5 p.m. and Dustin was on his way.

When he came he didn't even bother knocking. He knew the side door, that lead into the laundry room, was usually unlocked. I was glad that he had sweats on because I would have felt weird if I was the only one in pj's.

Dustin sat down on the couch next to me and grabbed a piece of pizza off my plate. "Sup kid." Here we go again. I thought.

"I'm only a month younger than you. MOVE ON WITH IT. Its been how long. You know it bugs me, and now you take my pizza. This isn't even fair anymore." Ugh.

And with that we both eventually fell asleep on the couch, Dustin spending the night, AGAIN. He knew my mom didn't care because we have known each other for so long.
