"Green is totally your color. I love the cute little flower designs. Sheila out did herself today." Lucy gushed over our new brightly colored nails. We walked to Johnny J's Diner, our favorite hangout spot. We ordered our usual caramel macchiatos, two burgers, and an order of fries to share.

"I'm so glad we skipped the rest of the day. I really needed this. I feel so relaxed." I told her with an ear to ear grin. I love the time I get to spend with my best friend. She's always had a way to keep the shitty things off of my mind.

"So, what are you gonna do about the Zeek and Beau debacle?"

"I have no idea. It was nice of Beau to offer me an out, but I don't want to inconvenience him. Besides Zeek is cute and seems nice." Lucy raises her eyebrows.

"Zeek has quite the reputation. There's a reason he dates girls from other schools. I heard in junior year he was caught screwing Ms.Abott on her desk after school. More recently he and that one girl from Douglas JUST broke up. I'm not so sure he's the one you should go on your first date with." I know Lucy is looking out for me, but maybe I'm finally ready to put myself out there. I mean one date won't disrupt my life completely and it's not like I'll let him get too far with me. My first and only kiss was with Beau when we were 9. Inexperienced is putting it mildly.

"Okay, yeah I know he's a tad bit more experienced and all. But, I am an expert in the art of rejection. I'd totally be fine. We'll be in a public place and I'll have you and the girls to watch out for me. All I want to do is prove that I'm not some stuck up too good for any guy in our school girl. I'm just focused." Dating terrifies me honestly, but I can't tell Lucy that. I'd have to tell her why and the nightmares only recently subsided. It's the real reason I'm not looking forward to Luke coming home. We aren't as close as we used to be yet, we can still tell when things are off with each other. Of course he would choose to come home just when I'm starting to normalize. Another issue I'll have to bring up to Dr.Ryker at our next appointment.

"Focused huh? English class would beg to differ. You were totally gone. Thinking about whom though? Beau or Zeek?"

"Neither." I lied. Lucy always knows when I lie.

"Bullshit Thompson. My money is on Beau and that panty dropping smile of his." Lucy smirks as if she's picturing him naked.

"His ass looked so yummy in those jeans." Did I just say that out loud? Shit, shit, shit. Here it comes.

Lucy screeches, "I knew it! You have the hots for Beau."

"Oh my gosh. No. He's good looking. I won't deny that, but that's all it is. It was an appreciative acknowledgement." She's on to me. Lucy won't let this go. She's been waiting for this day since we were 13.

"Mhm. And I'm a virgin." We let out a roar of laughter. Lucy is a great friend, but she goes through boys like water. Except for this thing with Sam Hanks. They've been secretly hooking up for months now. She swears it's just really mind blowing sex, however I think she really likes him. I'm pretty sure she's expecting him to ask her to the fall formal.

"I've got to get home and pack for the weekend. Are we still staying in, Netflix and chill?" Lucy avoids eye contact.

"Luce?" She starts fidgeting with her coffee mug.

"So don't be mad, but Brian Adler is throwing this huge party and I may have told people we were going." She winces in anticipation of a slew of swear words.

"Really? Maybe it'll be fun. What should I bring to wear, or can I raid your closet?" Lucy stares at me, in awe of my answer.

"You're not mad?! No protests. Fuck me's or Shits?"

"Nope. It's time to live a little." I grab my things, pay our bill and head back to my place. I'll meet up with Lucy later. Time to clean up whatever mess Trenton has left for me. At least I can enjoy the walk home, gives me a chance to be alone with my thoughts.

"Thompson!"

I turn around and jogging over is freaking Beau Whitmore.
