Beau
I take Sawyer’s hand in mine as we walk into the school. She looks up at me with a huge smile spread across her face. I feel like I just won the state championship ten times over. I did not expect last night to go the way it did, then this morning. Damn was it amazing. I want to scoop her up and take her back to my bed right now.
I turn to her and say, “Are you ready for this?”
She lifts up on her tiptoes and kisses me.
“I’ll take that as a yes.”
The walk to Sawyer’s locker was a little awkward, not because of us. But, the stares and the silence. It bordered creepy. Sure seeing us holding hands must be a shock, but this just seemed a little dramatic. Then it hit me. This must seem really odd. She’s supposed to be going to the fall dance with Zeek, yet here she is holding hands with me. Shit, the rumors this will start. Fuck, fuck, fuck. I can feel Sawyer’s hand grip mine tighter as she comes to a similar conclusion.
“Beau. I forgot about the dance, and Zeek!” She whispered.
“I did too.”
“Everyone is whispering and staring.”
“Ignore them Babes. We don’t owe them an explanation. They’re going to talk no matter what.”
“Beau, watch-”
I felt a pain in the right side of my face. I recover quickly to see Zeek standing there anger blazing in his eyes. I release Sawyer’s hand.
“Seriously Sward?”
“Yeah Whitmore. You’re lucky that’s all I did.”
“I’m not gonna fight you Zeek. I get you’re upset.”
“You stole my girl!”
“She was never yours. You caught her off guard when you asked her to the dance in front of everyone.”
Zeek turned to Sawyer. “Is that true?” She looks down at her shoes. “What about dinner? Did I force you into saying yes to that too?!” His voice a low growl.
“Zeek. I’m sorry. I didn’t know-”
“Didn’t know what? That I actually liked you? What about that kiss at Adler’s party? Was that just to fuck with me?!” The harsh tone makes Sawyer flinch.
“Hey, don’t talk to her like that.” I snap.
“Zeek I like you, but Beau and I. I like Beau more and I need to see where it goes.” She said honestly. “ I never meant to hurt you. It all happened so fast. I’m so sorry.”
“He’s gonna hurt you. I hope you know that.” Zeek turns his eyes to me. “When you fuck this up, I’ll be there to pick up the pieces.”
Zeek storms off without another word. I pick up my bag off of the floor.
“Are you okay? Let me look at your eye, he socked you pretty good.” Concern in her eyes.
“I’m okay Babes. I’ve been hit harder by much bigger men. The real question is are you okay? I didn’t like the way he talked to you.” She forces her eyes to the ground.
“I deserved it. I should have told him before we did this.” She points to my hand in hers. “Whatever this is.”
“You broke a date with him, you weren’t together.” I squeeze her hand in reassurance. “And this. This is me, Beau Whitmore, claiming you, Ms.Sawyer Thompson, as mine. If you’ll have me that is?” Her eyes flick up to mine. A grin reaching from one ear to the other plastered on her beautiful face.
“I would love to be your girlfriend Beau.”
I lean down and place a small soft kiss on her lips. Both of us smile like idiots. I could spend all day kissing her. Unfortunately, the warning bell rings and it’s time to head to class. I walk Sawyer to her first period class. I have to run to mine to avoid being late, but it’s worth it. I walk in to find Sam sitting with a shit eating grin on his face.
“Bro! What the hell? You don’t tell your bestfriend that you’ve scored the most unattainable girl in the whole school?!” I shake my head.
“I didn’t have time Sam. It just happened.”
“I heard Zeek gave you a congratulatory punch to the face. From the looks of it he got you good.”
“It’ll be fine by the game tomorrow. It was worth it. I got the girl.” I say with confidence.
She’s really mine.
My girl.
