Sawyer
I have a boyfriend. I, Sawyer Marie Thompson, have a freaking boyfriend! Oh my gosh. I haven’t told Lucy yet. She is going to kill me! Shit, she probably already knows. Thanks to Zeeks huge display I’m sure the entire school knows by now. Well, I have all of AP calculus to figure out what I’m going to say to Lucy. I am in so much trouble.
The bell rings so I collect my books and bag and start towards my locker. When it comes into view I can see Lucy standing there with a smirk on her face? What the- She’s happy? I cautiously continue my journey to my locker. Lucy sees me and waves me to hurry up.
“Hey? Everything okay?” I asked confused.
“So change of plans for the dance.”
“Um okay?” Again confused as to what the hell is going on.
“I have a date.” Lucy giggles and grins.
“With who?!”
“Sam Hanks.” She beams.
“So you two are finally going on a real date?”
“Yes!”
“I wonder if that has anything to do with Beau and I going together?” Lucy blinks at me.
“You and Beau? Wait, what happened to Zeek?” Now her face showed confusion. Lucy doesn’t know about Beau and I!
“About that. Um. I went over to Beau’s to start our project and we sort of, um, kissed.” Lucy squealed so loud I think she broke my eardrums.
“You guys kissed and then what? I’m still not understanding why you’re not going with Zeek. I thought you liked him?”
“Well I do, did. But, there’s something with Beau. He makes me feel, I don’t know how to put into words. I can’t explain it Luce. He makes me feel like I’m worth something. And girl, can he kiss! Oh my, and more than the lips on my face.” I blush at the thought of Beau’s head in between my legs this morning.
“Oh.My.Gosh! He went down on you?! You did something sexual? Sawyer Thompson you had been spill everything! I have been waiting our whole lives for you to experience sex!”
“Whoa whoa whoa. We didn’t have sex, However, we did do other things.”
I give Lucy a wicked smirk. Her eyes fill with astonishment and curiosity. I grab my books and bag for my next class.
“I’ll see you at lunch Luce.”
I walk away and head towards my next class, AP History. I know, I’m a bit of an overachiever. Beau and I share this class too. I practically float into the classroom. Beau saved me a seat next to him. Damn him and that gorgeous smile. I want to kiss him so badly.
“How did it go with Lucy? I saw her at your locker and figured you’d want to be the one to tell her about us.”
“I did. Thank you. She’s pretty happy. Might have to do more with Sam taking her to the formal than the fact that I actually have a boyfriend. Although, I didn’t exactly tell her we’re together either. She just knows about the dance.”
Beau laughs. Oh that laugh, I love it.
“I told Sam, must be why he finally gave up on taking Madison. I know he likes Lucy, he’s scared to like her though.”
“I feel the same about Lucy! Her and Sam are totally made for each other.”
“Like how I was made for you.” Beau smiles shyly. Butterflies fill my stomach, and I feel the familiar rush of heat creep up my neck to my cheeks. The bell rings and it’s time to start class. I spend the entire time thinking about this morning and how perfect it was. Then the sound of the bell snaps me out of my thoughts. Beau holds out his hand for mine and we walk together to my locker.
“I could get used to this.” Beau beams.
“Me too.” I say shyly.
This whole dating thing is new to me, will it always feel this good? This is the first time I’ve honestly smiled this much since before momma died. I’d almost forgotten what happiness felt like. Maybe now Luke will see that I’m okay and stop worry so damn much. Since he came home and found out about the fight with Trenton he’s been watching me like a hawk. Trenton is still missing, hopefully dead in a ditch somewhere. Luke was starting to pick up on the other incident as well.
The night after the party, after I heard his voice, I had started to have the night terrors again. I woke up screaming, soaked in sweat, arms flailing everywhere. Luke charged into my room and tried to wake me, I smacked him in the face. Luke had never seen me like that. He left for school shortly after the assault and wasn’t around for effects. Of course he assumed it was because of the fight with Trenton which made it easy to keep the truth from him. But, now he's suspicious that my night terrors are more than that. Last night I was reluctant to stay at first because I thought for sure I’d have an episode, but I didn’t.
When Beau wrapped me in his arms I felt a sense of calm and safe. He must have kept my nightmares at bay. We haven’t even been together for a full day and he already has made my life so much better. Maybe letting someone in isn’t such a terrible thing after all.
The next couple of days fly by. It’s Saturday, the day of the formal. Lucy and I are on our way back to her house to finish getting ready. I chose to wear my hair long with loose curls. My dress went to the floor and was emerald green in color. It had one over the shoulder band, leaving my right shoulder completely exposed. It fit my curves in all of the right places. I paired it with silver Steve Maddens that Lucy and I found at the local thrift store. It’s a simple but elegant look. Lucy opted for the traditional updo. Her dress ended just above her knee. It was strapless and bright fuschia. She wore the black version of my Steve Maddens. She wore a silver necklace with a large diamond that hung between her breasts. Lucy looked stunning.
We heard the doorbell, then Lucy’s parents answering the door. My heart was thumping out of my chest. I’ve only been to one other dance and that was in eighth grade and Lucy made me go with her because her boyfriend, Seth Johnson had dumped her for Caroline Burke. I danced with Lucy the whole time, even the slow songs. However, it didn’t deter the boys away from trying to ask me to dance. Needless to say, I am super nervous and I hope Beau doesn’t notice. Lucy grabs my hand and we walk down the stairs together. Standing at the bottom was Beau and Sam. Beau looked even more handsome in his suit. Wait, something’s different. He cut his hair!
“You look absolutely stunning Ms.Thompson!” Beau beams.
“You cut your hair?!”
“Yeah, I figured it was time. I didn’t want to look all shaggy for our big night.” He flashed me his sexiest smile. The one that can make any girl drop her panties. I guess it’s a good thing this dress prevents me from wearing any.
“How thoughtful Mr.Whitmore.” I gave him my I’m-so-happy-it’s-ridiculous smile.
“We should probably get going if we want to make it to dinner before the dance. You two can suck face in the back on the way there, I’m starving.” Sam interrupts.
Lucy lets out a small laugh. I’m betting she never thought someone would have to ever say those words. Usually I was the one rushing Lucy places because of some guy she was into. It felt nice to be the gross one for once.Lucy and I grab our jackets and meet the guys at the truck. It’s a black 2018 Ram 3500 Laramie Longhorn, looks like David’s pickup. Beau opens my door while Sam surprises us by opening Lucy’s. Maybe Sam does have it bad for Lucy. Beau slides in next to me as Sam walks to the driver side and gets in.
Tonight is my first actual date with Beau, and my first formal since I started high school. A lot of firsts happening, maybe Beau will take another.
