Beau

I sped the entire way to the Riddle’s Jewelry store. When I pulled into the parking lot, I noticed Sam’s black Chevy pickup. I smiled to myself. About damn time one of them caved. Lucy and Sam have been locked in a battle, trying to make the other admit to what they were BOTH feeling. It’s been months of shenanigans that both Sawyer and I were sick of seeing as we would somehow get roped into them.

I walked into Riddles to find Sam eyeing a white gold necklace that held a single diamond stud. He looked to be struggling once he saw the price tag. The Hanks weren’t poor but they made sure their kids new the value of a dollar, so when it came to buying something that wasn’t a necessity they had to use their own money. Which meant that Sam and his siblings would need a job. Sam worked on my families farm during the summer for extra cash, while in the winter he worked at the local mall. Usually for one of the clothing stores, but this year he applied for building maintenance and janitorial services. One of the perks was the wage increase; however from the looks of it, it still wouldn’t be enough to buy that necklace.

I sneak up behind Sam and grab his shoulders and whisper, “Gotcha!”

    “Shit dude!” Sam blurted.

“What are you doing here Sam? Finally going to tell Lucy how you feel about her?” I smirked.

“Actually I am. I’m tired of all the guys hitting on her, and I don’t want any other girl. She’s too damn stubborn to make the move so here I am.”

“I’m proud of ya bud. Sawyer and I were starting to think neither of you would admit defeat.”

Sam rolled his eyes as a laugh bubbled up.

“Yeah we’ve been being pretty ridiculous. Sorry about that.”

“Hey I get it. So what are ya getting the little lady?”

“I want to buy her this necklace, but it’s a little out of my price range at the moment. Buying gifts for my family has emptied my savings.”

“How about I loan you the difference and you’ll owe me a favor?”

“Really bro?! That’d be awesome!” Sam beamed.

When we left the store said our goodbyes and I drove off heading back home. I wanted to wrap my gift before Sawyer returned from dinner. I couldn’t have been happier. Sawyer was the love of my life and now my best friend was finally going to man up and snag his love. I couldn’t wait to see what the new year would bring.

Zeek

She looked so damn good, happy even. She was like a totally different person from the day I took her to the ER. Granted her face was bloodied and bruised and she has been through a traumatic fight with her dad. But seeing her like this, confident and happy, it made my heart jump. That bright smile and deep green eyes, damn she was gorgeous. I wish I was the reason for it.

The only reason I was even at Johnny’s was because of Caroline. She said she needed my help with something. Not in a million years would I have thought she would ask me to help break up Beau and Sawyer. I mean the guys call her Crazy Caroline for a reason, but I thought that was for meant more towards the bedroom part.

    “You want me to what?!”

“Shhhhh! Don’t be so loud Zeek.”

I blinked at her, dumbfounded at what she was asking.

“Look, all I need you to do is sneak into Beau’s truck and leave a pair of underwear. He’ll think she’s cheating and break up with her .I’ll swoop in and console Beau. He’ll fall for me and we’ll be together.” She smiled as if her plan was so brilliant.

“No. No way in hell am I doing this Caroline.” I said sternly.

“Everyone knows you’re still pining over Sawyer like a love sick puppy. It’s a win win. I’ll get Beau and you can have your shot with Sawyer.” Another evil grin appeared on her face.

“Caroline, listen I get that you have this thing for Beau but he loves Sawyer. You’re little plan isn’t going to tear them apart. And I’m not going to be apart of anything that would hurt Sawyer. She’s been through enough in life. Despite what you may think, I care enough about her not to be the cause of her pain.”

I stood up, grabbed my jacket and walked out the door. I was completely shocked and stunned. What the hell was she thinking psycho bitch. Now I knew why they called her Crazy Caroline and it had absolutely nothing to do with her bedroom antics. I knew her hairbrain scheme wouldn’t work so I shrugged away the whole encounter. That’s when I was almost smacked in the face by a truck door. Her truck door.
