Oh, My Alice! // The White Rabbit // Part Three.

Away from here.

You did not know where you would go nor what you would do but...you certainly wouldn't be staying here. There was something so very terrible about the White Rabbit. Something...something frightening. Something was very, very wrong with him.

His dark red eyes still gleamed darkly, a smile spread across his face. It looked wrong. It looked twisted. You could tell what he wanted to hear:

That you would say for tea and entertain the White Rabbit, that he would have his way but...

But you couldn't. His too bright smile, his too read eyes...you could not stay here with him and you would not pretend otherwise. Steeling yourself, you tried to ignore the intense fear that bubbled in your belly, oh, that awful sick feeling!

"I can't...I can't stay. I have to go home."

The smile fell from his face in an instant, replaced by a look of utter disappointment. Any other time, you would have felt bed for upsetting him but there was something so odd about the way he looked. Something so...fake. It was as though he had slipped a mask on for the appropriate emotion, wearing it so wonderfully. And had it not been for this sick feeling, you might have believed what you were seeing.

"Oh, yes," he said, "yes, I understand. You must wish very badly to figure this whole mess out."

He suddenly brightened, smiling once again.

"I know! I'll take you to Queen Katrina! The queen knows all of Wonderland very well and I'm certain that she'll be able to help you...if she's not in one of her moods." Shuddering, William checked his pocket watch quickly, "Just give me a moment, Alice, I'll be right back."

Away he went, smiling and mumbling to himself as he left you all alone.

Did he mean it, you wondered?

Would he really help you?

Oh, the White Rabbit confused you so much! He scared you! As you waited, you mind began to wander with a million questions.

Could you trust him?

Should you risk it?

So involved with your own worries and fears, you didn't notice it at first.

The sound of footsteps on the grass behind you.

A presence creeping closer.

It wasn't until something wrapped around your throat that you realized what you had so stupidly missed:

William.

He'd snuck up behind you, wrapping something around your throat and pulling, choking, strangling you from behind. The force of his attack pulled you into his chest, your hands ripping and pulling and your choked cries pleading helplessly.

"William-"

He laughed softly, his breath tickling your hair as though this was so...so normal. As though he was doing nothing wrong, it was all just a game to him.

"-don't-"

He shushed you. Why? Did he hate you terrified cries and your struggling? Did they remind him just how horrible this was?

"-no-"

You couldn't say anymore.

You couldn't breathe anymore.

All around you, darkness swam and swirled and swam and swirled and...and you were so very tired now. The world was growing darker and colder, vanishing by the second until...until...All that was left was his voice.

William's quiet, cold voice...

Whispering in your ear...

Sweet, soothing, terrible!

"Just close your eyes, dear Alice. Close your eyes and go to sleep and when you wake up...everything will be wonderful."

His terrible voice, his words, were the last thing that you heard as darkness overtook you. Any fears that this was it for your journey were gone away but...there was a new question to be thought over. A new fear that coursed through your blood, terror pumped by your heart and forced through your very veins:

If he wasn't going to kill you...what was William going to do to you?

Now limp in his arms, your last moments of consciousness faded away as William carried you in his arms...off to wear, you wondered? To do what?

And would you ever wake up from this terrible, horrible nightmare?

You are...Sour Alice! William was made quite unhappy by your answer but, oh, he'll fix it! He'll fix everything, Alice, just you wait and see!
