Oh, My Alice! // The March Hare // Part Three.

Go with Matthias.

Should you go with him? Or should you stay? The Mad Hatter certainly seemed a little bit sweeter then his friend but, oh, he was so lost in his own little world! You too were lost, desperate to get out and perhaps...perhaps Matthias really could help you.

He was strange...but wasn't everyone in Wonderland? Behind you the Mad Hatter babbled on and you wondered what you should do. Stay or go, stay or go, stay or...

"I'll go with you." You whispered.

He smiled brightly, giving you a little wink before he looked away from you and towards the still distracted Hatter.

"Jervis!" He called.

The Hatter looked up for only a moment, still mumbling about sugar and tea trays as Matthias pointed towards the other end of the table.

"Isn't that the sugar dish over there?"

"Oh! Is it? It is!"

With the Mad Hatter thoroughly distracted over his sugar and tea, Matthias took your hand and quickly lead you away from the tea party. He was grinning, almost giggling, and his hand was holding onto yours rather tightly as you left behind the Hatter and went to...to where exactly?

"Matthias?" You asked, "Where will we go?"

He squeezed your hand, glancing at you from the corner of his eyes.

"Home, Alice! My home!" He replied. "You'll be safer there. Wonderland is not the safest of the lands and, after all, many things need to be explained to you. You're playing the game now and you don't even know the rules, poor dear!"

"The game?" you asked him. "The rules?"

"Oh! Don't you worry now! I'll explain everything, Alice, I'll take care of you!"

Would he take care of you?

Could you trust him?

That smile...that look in his eyes...the gripe he had on your hand. You didn't like it. Any of it. You tried to pull away from the Hare but, oh, he held on tight! When you tried to tug away from him, Matthias only tugged you closer, a look of annoyance coming upon his face.

"Alice..." he said carefully.

It hurt, the way he was holding you now and you cried out.

"Alice! Why are you being so difficult?!" He snapped.

"You're hurting me!"

It had been a mistake, coming with Matthias.

Finally managing to pull away, you fell back with a small scream. You looked up at the Hare, shaking in fear. He looked down at you, shaking in anger. His face twisted with rage as he came closer, fists clenched and eyes burning.

"You ALWAYS do this!" He hissed. "You always RUN and FIGHT and...and act so BADLY! I'll teach you, Alice! I'll teach you to behave!"

You ran.

And he ran after you, chasing you down as he ranted and raved. Oh, you tried to hard to get away from him but...Matthias was so fast! And so furious!

"Alice!"

"Get back here!"

"Don't you try to escape me!"

"You can NEVER escape me!"

"ALICE!!"

He chased you down, tackling you to the cold ground as you screamed.

Thrashing beneath him, you clawed and kicked and bit, which only angered him even more. Reaching into his coat, Matthias pulled out a...a knife.

"Alice!" He screamed. "You are going to PLAY THE GAME! WE ALL PLAY THE GAME!!"

Pressing the knife to your neck, he glared down at you.

You wept and screamed as he pulled you to your feet, nearly dragging you along with him as he pressed to cold, horrible metal to your neck.

Oh! How horrible it was! How horrible he was!

It had been a mistake, everything thus far...and now you were paying for it. Shaking and shivering and weeping, you were dragged into the darkness by the March Hare, a knife to your neck and his voice in your ear.

"You'll learn you'll place, Alice." He hissed cruelly. "You'll learn to play the game!"

You are...Sweet Alice! Matthias is so happy that you're playing along with him, what a good little thing! You'll keep being nice, won't you? You'll be his darling, won't you, dear?
