Rain's POV
I walked into the chemistry classroom and everyone was standing around Mrs. Greene's desk. The windows were open as usual. I zipped up my jacket before the cold could reach me. Gray walked up to me and gave me a really good hug. Boob to boob are the best hugs.
"Why is everyone standing up?" I ask confused.
"Dumbass, did you forget?" She asks. She smells like vanilla and brown sugar. It's probably the perfume I gave her. Gave isn't the right word it's more like I let her borrow it and she never gave it back.
"Forget what?" I reply. I grab my phone to check the time and it's 12:38. We've been waiting here for 3 minutes already.
"We're switching seats today. Everyone is lining up to look at the seating chart." She tells me. Then she laughs because my eyes practically fall out of their sockets. I completely forgot about that.
My heart dropped. I don't know anyone else in this class besides her. Now I have to make new friends. What the fuck!
"Mrs. Greene never mentioned that we were switching seats." I don't want to move. I like my seat. It's in the back corner of the classroom and away from the windows. It's warm and no one can judge me from there.
"It was a google classroom announcement like two weeks ago, but she forgot. And it was the end of the quarter a while ago." She looks a bit upset at the thought of us not sitting together too.
The line to Mrs. Greene's desk gets shorter and soon it's our turn to look at the seating chart. Gray is sitting a table away from our old spots but I have to move across the whole classroom right next to the fucking windows. You've gotta be kidding me. The windows, really?
Gray gives me another hug before she goes to her new table. I walk over to my new table and sit down. Thank god I decided to wear a thicker jacket today or else I would've been freezing.
Mrs. Greene stands up but it doesn't really make any difference from when she sits down. She's a short woman. I don't think she's even 5 foot tall.
"Good afternoon class, these are your new seats for the next 10 weeks. Introduce yourselves to your new table and you guys can have this class period as a study hall. I have to finish grading your unit 6 exams so please keep the volume to a minimum."
There's still an empty seat at the table but across from me is a black boy and a white girl. It looks like they already know each other by how close they're sitting.
Someone walks in late and hands Mrs. Greene a note. She looks at it briefly and glances at the seating chart then points over to my new table. He says hi to a couple of his friends, gives this girl a hug, and then slowly makes his way over to us.
He shakes hands with the guy and says "I'm Luke." Then he high fives the girl and says the same thing. He finally sits down and the boy says "I'm Reese," he points to the girl and says "This is Amanda."
Luke turns to me and then pauses a bit. I hope there isn't food on my face or a new pimple growing. He snaps out of it to shake my hand and asks " What's your name?"
I meekly respond "Rain,".
"Well, Rain it's very nice to meet you," Luke says and then sits down. When he sits down his elbow almost brushes my arm but I shift over.
He didn't say nice to meet you to them so I guess I feel a little special.
My phone suddenly vibrates and it's a snap from Gray. I automatically screenshot it because it's a picture of Luke shaking my hand and the caption is 'new ship?'
