Luke's POV
(picks up right where the last chapter ended)
"Ow, what the fuck!" I exclaim dusting my jacket off as Jaime helped me up. I feel a hand on my ass and I realize it's Noah helping me get the dirt off of my shorts. I let out a little thanks before Jasper opens his mouth to speak.
"Yes homo," Is all Jasper says before winking and dusting his shorts off. Cole is still laughing us from behind Jasper.
"Don't do that, bitch," I tell Jasper even though I'm still laughing at the situation.
He really just did that to me. What a clown. And of course Cole is STILL laughing.
I try to turn and look down at my butt but fail to do so. "Noah is it all good back there?" I ask dusting off my shirt. Jasper would choose the day that I wore my favorite black shirt, to get it dirty.
Noah gives my shorts a final wipe before saying, "Yeah, you're good." As we return to the order in which we were walking.
It's time like these that I really appreciate my friends and I'm glad I have these moments with them. It's really sad to see people eating lunch alone because they don't have people to eat with. I don't know who I would be without these boys.
Our brief encounter with the ground has left Jaime sneezing. He looks like that video of that cat that sneezed 20 times. I immediately pull out my phone to record. I need this to embarrass him later.
A few minutes go by and we're just standing in the grass letting the wind rustle our clothes. The smell of the freshly cut grass has already made home in our noses. I love this smell. It smells even better than my mom's shea butter lotion. And that shit slaps.
It's windy but just enough wind. Just enough to feel cool but not cold.
"Y'all wanna come over today," I ask randomly. It's been a couple of days since they've been over my house. And my mom is cooking today so that's a plus.
"Sure," Cole and Timothy say immediately no qualms about it.
"Is your mom cooking today?" Jasper asks picking at the bark on a tree.
Noah smacks his hand away. "Stop it, and yeah is your mom cooking?" He asks too.
"Uh huh and," I say letting them hang on to my every word.
"And what?" Jasper asks.
I break out into a smile, "She's picking up some jerk chicken too."
Cole proceeds to do a little dance which basically consists of him hitting the woah several times. I had to laugh even if that encouraged his silly antics.
"I love it when your mom cooks," Jaime says rubbing his stomach.
"Yeah me too, I'm gonna be in class just waiting to go to your house," Noah says wistfully.
"Jerk chicken oh my god, you should've just started with that." Timothy says. As if he didn't just eat two large fries from McDonalds.
Fucking leeches. But I love my leeches. Even if they like my mom more than they like me. But my mom is great so I can see why.
"Does she have a vegetarian option?" Noah asks.
"No, but if one of us decides to become a vegetarian she'll make one." I say laughing.
"Luke, you know I'm trying to be more environmentally conscious." Noah says smacking Jasper's hand again as he tries to pick blades of grass out of the ground.
"Yeah, I do, that's why my mom only cooks meat for us once a week. BECAUSE OF YOU!" I say with fake annoyance.
The adjustment from meat most days to meat once a week wasn't as hard as I thought it was gonna be. Besides my parents don't normally cook much meat based meals anyways. If they did though, then this would be a different situation.
"You should be happy, I'm trying to outlive the 12 years the scientists say we have," Noah replies brazenly sinking the mood of the conversation.
As fun as it is to rile him up, he's right. People need to care more about climate change before we go extinct. Not enough people know the seriousness of our detriment to the Earth. And it hurts to know that there might not be a future for us, or even an us.
"Sad boi hours are starting," Cole says and then looks down. The rest of us follow suit.
"What ti-" Jaime starts but is shushed by Cole. Cole is the only person Jaime will let shush him. It's almost as if the crush Jaime has on him is becoming obvious.
"It's sad boi hours shh," Cole says bringing the group back to our quiet place.
And we all just look down in silence for a few minutes. It felt like forever. If forever felt like a few minutes.
"Okay, sad boi hours are over, the convo can commence," Cole says as we all lift our heads up.
I tapped Timothy's apple watch to see what time it was. I didn't feel like taking my phone out of my pocket.
It read 11:17 am. Shit we still have lots of time left in the period. Lunch isn't over until 11:35 anyways. We might as well do something to make the minutes pass quicker.
"We're going to Luke's house, to Luke's house," Cole says in a singsongy voice. Soon the others join in.
They're all just a bunch of crackhead leeches. I don't understand how these people can make me laugh so hard within seconds without even trying.
This is the true beauty of friendship.
I feel so bad for people who don't have this because I wouldn't be able to live without this. This special type of platonic love that only my friends can make me feel.
The way I feel when I speak to Rain is the only other feeling that can compare to this.
(A/N) Next chapter should be completed by Sunday : July 14th. I'm really hoping I have enough creativity and time for it. Also, it's going to be in Rain's POV.
