Luke's POV
(A/N) : During this forced social distancing, cancelled school, coronacation I will be trying my best to get as much work done as I can.
(picks up right where the last Luke POV ended; at his house playing uno)
Jaime puts down a draw 4 and Zion puts down another draw 4. Zion says, "The color is yellow." He picks up 8 cards and Zion puts down her last card and says uno out.
"You never said uno in the first place, draw 2 for not saying uno and draw 2 more for a false uno out," Jaime retorts.
"Damn, he's on your ass," Noah says snapping his nimble fingers.
I pull the four cards out and hand them to her. She nods at me, and quietly whispers, "Thanks Luke".
Jaime puts down 3 reverses which means it's still his turn because he reversed it back to himself, reversed it to Zion and then back to himself again. The last card was a blue reverse. He puts down a blue 5, green 4, and a red 2. Zion places down a swap hands card. "The color is yellow".
Jaime puts down a yellow seven and it appears that he is a tad bit scared. Even though he managed to turn the game around in his favor the cunning Zion struck again.
Zion places down a red six and blue four and correctly yells, "Uno out!".
"So," Cole pops up from out of the living room. "Who won?"
"Zion," Jasper replies.
"Jaime who do you have a crush on?" Noah prods.
Cole.
Obviously.
"What was that other option?" Jaime asks, moving his hair out of his face.
"Eating five spoons of miracle whip," Timothy chimes in.
"Damn you and your good memory. Okay bring on the miracle whip." Jaime says trying to keep a poker face.
"So you're really not gonna tell us huh?" Jasper asks getting the spoon from the drawer as Timothy gets the miracle whip from the refrigerator.
Jaime doesn't respond; he just shakes his head no. His wavy hair shakes in the balance. Jasper hands him the tablespoon and Timothy twists the lid off of the Miracle Whip. Just as Jaime lifts the spoon to his mouth Cole interjects.
"Get a bowl," Cole says. He almost looks disappointed that Jaime chose to not tell us. I wonder if he knows. That's impossible, as dense as Cole is. Unless someone told him. Although I'm pretty sure only me, Noah and Zion know that Jaime has a crush on Cole.
"Why?" I ask. What does he even need a bowl for?
"Do you want him to double dip in your Miracle Whip? Think about it." Cole raises his eyebrows in a 'duh' face. "He has to eat it therefore the spoon is gonna go in and out of the jar and into his mouth more than once. Putting all of it in a bowl and having him eat it out of the bowl eliminates the risk of contaminating your mayo." Cole finishes with a thumbs up.
Jasper walks back into the kitchen. He walks over to the cabinet right above the sink and grabs a bowl. It's a small, plastic blue bowl. Damn, Miracle Whip has a strong smell. I'm gonna have to scrub the shit out of that. As much as they're over here it still surprises me how well they know my house.
"True, you're so smart dude," Zion says, giving Cole a fist bump.
Jaime puts all five tablespoons in the blue bowl. Zion pulls out her phone to record and so do the rest of us. The first spoon goes down the quickest. It almost looks as if he is experiencing brain freeze. Deadass that couldn't be me.
I record a few snaps to post to my private story. I caption it 'uno gone wrong' with some dead skull emojis.
Once he finishes the bowl of Miracle Whip I grab it and throw it in the sink.
I look down at my phone and it's already after 6' o clock. Maybe we should get some homework done.
We basically all have the same classes with some exceptions like Social Studies, Math, and etcetera. Well besides the fact that some of are taking different languages too. But we also have different teachers so we don't get the same homework.
"Let's do our homework," Timothy chimes in.
"Yeah, I was just thinking that." Zion agrees.
"Took the words right out of my mouth," I say sheepishly.
For the next half hour we're practically silent, and hard at work. Jasper's phone chimed every five seconds, probably texts from Korie, so we had to pull out the phone bin. It's a little light blue bin that Mom bought for us. The purpose is in the name. It's for us to put our phones in if we're too distracted by them. I thought it was really dumb at first but it works for us.
"It's getting late," Noah says. He's been doing his trig homework with Timothy.
"You guys said my mom is picking up some more hours tonight right?" I ask remembering that I was in the shower when they talked about that.
Speaking of family members where the hell is the rest of mine. I know Kamryn is probably in his room doing god knows what. Ohhh, today is Tuesday. Dad is most likely getting off of work right now and should be picking Milo up from her creative writing class. For a 13 year old, her poetry and her story writing skills are amazing. She really does have a way with words, and as her big brother I am so proud of her.
"Yeah," Zion nods her head at my statement.
"You think she would mind taking me home?" Noah asks. He lives the closest to me in the group. He knows she wouldn't mind. My mom absolutely adores Noah. Maybe it's cause they're both Black and have shared cultural experiences. I wouldn't know. But she seems to like Noah a bit more than the rest of the group. I mean he is my best friend so that also could be it.
"Uh huh," I reply. "For sure," I shake my head yes at him.
