Many babies treat their parents to their first smile when they’re between six and eight weeks old :)
Ashton: Jessica was crying. Something she seemed to always be doing and it was Ashton’s turn to try and figure out what was wrong. So far, he wasn’t getting anywhere. So instead, he had her propped up on his knees and had resulted in making ridiculous faces at her and he let out a laugh of disbelief when she stopped her crying and began watching him intently. It was as if she recognised who he was but didn’t understand what he was doing. Ashton crossed his eyes and poked his tongue out and he saw the tiniest of smiles grace Jessica’s face. He let out another laugh and picked her up, going in search of you. You were in the kitchen, stuffing some washing into the washing machine, looking up when the two of them came into the room. “My two favourite people!” you exclaimed, standing up to take Jessie from him. “Guess what?” Ashton said, rocking back and forth on his heels, smiling cutely at you. “What?” you asked, “You made the bed like I asked you to?” He gave you a pointed look, “No. Jessica, just gave me a smile.” Your teasing smile, “I missed it?!” He noticed your frown and shook his head, “Hey, it doesn’t matter. I’m sure I can get her to do it again…” He pulled a few more funny faces in an attempt, but to no avail. You smiled slightly and kissed his cheek, “Don’t worry about it Ash. She’ll do it again in her own time.”
Calum: The twins were both sat in their bouncy chairs, the two of them staring at you with blank expressions. Calum was asleep on the couch, having had a hard day on daddy duty. ”Oh…think about when your daddy is on tour and you’re a little bit older. You’re gonna outnumber me.” you whispered, mostly talking to yourself. “You’ll come on tour.” Calum said suddenly. You turned around to see him sitting up, rubbing his eyes before he came to sit down beside you. “Who’s my handsome boy?” you said quietly, playing with Noah’s little hand. He began moving his arms up and down and you saw his face light up. You froze as you saw that he was smiling. “Cal,” you whispered, “Look! He’s smiling!” Calum grinned at you before focusing his attention on Andrew, who was watching you with wide eyes. Calum took his little hand, bringing it up to his mouth pretending to bite it. You held your breath, hoping that he’d give you a smile like his brother and thankfully, he did. He was watching Calum and when his daddy pressed soft kisses to the bottom of his foot, he smiled. “There we go,” Calum grinned, “Now both our little boys are smiling.”
Luke: "Peekaboo?" you asked, leaning against the bedroom door, "Really Luke? Can he even understand what you’re doing?" He turned to glare at you, "Don’t be rude. Anyway, he seems to be enjoying it." You rolled your eyes and pushed off the door, making your way over to the couch, where he had Darren resting in between two large cushions. You knelt down beside them and watched as he continued playing the game. "Where’s Darren?" he asked in a stupid baby voice, hiding his eyes with his hands. You watched your son for any reaction and saw him not even watching Luke, but watching you instead. You smiled and reached down, giving his stomach a gentle tickle and you watched happily as a smile made it’s way onto his lips. "There he i-oh." Luke frowned, realising that Darren wasn’t even paying attention to him anymore, but the frown disappeared when he saw that his little boy was now smiling.
Michael: You were playing with Amy in your bedroom; she was laying on her back while you were blowing raspberries onto her stomach. Michael came in a few minutes later, smiling at the sight of his two favourite girls. You let him pick her up and watched as he held her up above his head, talking to her in a baby voice. Amy turned her head to the side slightly and she caught sight of herself in the mirror that was on the wardrobe door. Michael saw what she was looking at and lowered her, turning so she was looking at the mirror straight on. “Who’s that pretty girl?” he cooed, moving closer to the mirror. “That’s Amy,” he continued and you moved so you were standing beside them. He glanced down at you with a smile on his face and you both watched as Amy stretched her little arm out, mouth opening slightly as her reflection done the same thing. Then, a lazy smile made it’s way onto her face. “Mikey, look!” you said excitedly, “She’s smiling!” Michael pressed a kiss to her forehead, letting out a small laugh as she continued to watch herself in the mirror.
