This a whole lot of people. I'm not going to remember anybody's name after this. Especially if Damario and KJ don't stop passing me a shot.
"I knew you were an alcoholic," I laughed as I leaned on the counter in Damario's kitchen.
He laughed back and gave me a little shove.
"Stop getting on me, L!"
"This nigga been drinking since, like, the 8th grade," KJ chimed in.
"Remind me never to tell you shit," I replied.
"Right! Telling a nigga's business," Damario yelled.Hell, we were all yelling, the music was loud. So loud that I started to wonder if Damario actually had neighbors.
It was real nice of KJ to suggest this party. It was just what I needed for a Saturday night. The party was put together at such short notice I figured it was going to be quiet but Damario said, 'In Section 1 when you say 'party', it's a wrap.'
I wasn't mad, I was having a good time. Things weren't too rowdy, there looked to be about almost 50 people here.
"I can't believe all these people fitting in your place," I said incredulously.
"They be coming and going. I got my mans at the door," Damario replied distractedly.I caught a glimpse of him on his phone. Which reminded me of Derek but it was too late to think about calling him back plus there wasn't more I wanted to discuss.
Back out in the living room area it was dark, all lights were out, the only source of light was the kitchen's. I watched the group of people either talking or dancing. The whole vibe was chill.
"I know you not still thinking about her," Damario said lowly.
I could still hear him clearly, it sounded as if he was right in my ear.
"Not at all," I shake my head.He studies my face for quite some time with a somber tipsy look. That line probably didn't make sense but he didn't look fully sober but he also didn't look drunk and he looked a step or two away from tipsy. He wore a black visor with his curly hair sitting all wild at the top of his head. He had on a dark red Under Armor T-shirt with his silver chain showing from around his neck tucked into his shirt. He simply paired it with black sweats. Casually, I wore a black T with a black windbreaker, with a heavier silver chain than Damario's and jeans.
"Aiight," he finally responded.
He gave me an indication to follow him so I walked with him into the dark. As we moved through the crowd mad people showed him love. They even gave me a head nod.
"Niggas is mad friendly out here," I observed.
"That's the north side for you. Just stay away from the south and west side. Niggas out there don't have brains."Damario leaned over to talk to the guy by the door, who must be the one he was talking about earlier. I continued to look around and found a few of the females watching me. The last thing I needed to do was start something new.
I began to feel my phone vibrate. I took it out and seen it was Jackie calling. I didn't mean to groan out so loud. I started moving into the dimly lit hallway that was giving off a blue hue. It was surprisingly quiet over here, the crowd being mostly in the living room."Yo, why do you keep calling me?" I said when I answered the phone.
"About time you talked to me, Les. I know you're mad at me but—"
"There's no buts, Jackie. We're done."
"Are you still in Section 1?"
I hesitated. Now why would she ask me that?
"I don't think that should be your concern anymore."
"You never gave me a chance to explain—"
"Explain what?! What could you possibly tell me that's gonna make me change my mind?! I saw you in our bed with a whole other nigga, Jackie!"
I could hear her starting to cry.
"Oh my God, why are you crying?"
"Because I know I made a mistake but you won't even listen to me or try to work things out."
"That's because I'm not interested in either of those things," I told her calmly. "I mean, maybe you should have thought twice before opening your legs up to another nigga. I'm not the one to play these games, I'm not playing 'get back together', those 2 years can go right down the drain. They obviously didn't mean shit to you."
She didn't say anything after a beat.
"I'm hanging up now, please don't call me."
I hung up and stared down at my phone, hoping she wasn't going to bug me all night.
