Song: 'sweater weather' by
׳the neighborhood׳

❄️

It was a typical Wednesday morning, normal like every other day. It was mid November and the rain didn't give up on it's appearance.
Oakland's weather was cold but yet not freezing, which meant it was a school day. despite the students difficulty of waking up in such an early time in the morning.
They were just about three months into the school year and yet the small amount of power they had in their bodies faded away in the first day of school.

"Are you sure you don't want a ride?" Nikki's voice, Tom's mum, echoed around the house. Tom looked at the stairs to meet his mother's eyes and slightly nodded is head to reassure her.
And in a blink of an eye, he was already in the other side of the door.

Rain is one of Tom's favorite things in the world, along the little talks he has sometimes with the beautiful curly girl from his class.
The rain never fails to disappoint, he thought.
When it comes it catches his eye and attention.
And the rain doesn't only manage to wash away all the dirt from the sidewalk, it washes away his fears too.

He plugged his earphones in his ears and pressed the shuffle play button on his favorite playlist.
Tom immediately felt his lips curving into a smile when his favorite song came along. 'sweater weather' by the neighborhood.

"Cause it's too cold For you here and now So let me hold Both your hands in the holes of my sweater"

He sung along the lyrics, enjoying every melody and every chord. Every lyric that made his heart beat in happiness.

Not that long afterwards, he was walking through school's halls. Passing by the kids he doesn't talk to and the teachers he tolerates throughout the day.

But that was until his eyes laid on his classroom's number, 609.

He peeked through the small gap between the door and the wall to see no one. Confusion washed over him but he shrugged it off taking a seat.

He continued listening to his favorite songs while doodling in his notebook until he thought so much time has already passed, so much time that it was already unreasonable.

He looked down at his phone and a gasp slipped out of his mouth. the class was supposed to start thirty minutes earlier and no one was there expect for him.

"Sorry I'm late ms. Br-" a girl spoke only to stop herself from talking as she saw that no one was there, well, expect for the brunette boy.

"Where is everyone?" She questioned snatching the boy's attention from his notebook to her face.
A slight frown was smeared all over her glowy face, and her hair was disheveled.

"I've wondered too" he answered her question as he took the earphones out of his ears.

And suddenly, even if it was only for one moment.

Her green ocean eyes met his honey brown eyes.

Green to brown, and brown to green.

But the gazing was soon interrupted by a text notification from their phones.

"Missed a class trip to museum" they read in unison from their phones.

oh, it makes sense now

The both laughed while shaking their heads at their phones. who would have though that the most irresponsible kids in class will forget about a trip to the museum? Probably everyone.

"Well, do you maybe want to grab some food at Larbs? Today I get there food for free" Tom suggested, unsure he said the right words to the right person.

"Why would they give you food for free?" She asked raising her eyebrows.

"Well, today is- Uh the day that I was born- my birthday" he stuttered avoiding eye contact.

He for sure hates is own birthday. that isn't a dramatic reason for every other persons eye. but in his eyes, it is.
He hates attention, especially everyone's on him.

"How could you not tell me? Or anyone? Congratulations!" Zendaya said happily pulling him into her embrace.

He sighed softly into her hair and hugged her back.

Now it isn't only the rain that washes away his fears.

It is her hugs too.

The both pulled away smiling, they definitely felt something. maybe they felt the spark between them or it was each other's butterflies going wild in each one of their stomachs.

Then, They got to the restaurant after a walk full of talking.

They couldn't help but realizing how dumb they were that they never really talked.

That they kept distance for no reason the entire time.

"I'm actually full, walk me home?" Zendaya asked willingly after they finished their meals.

"Happily" he replied offering her his hand.

She hesitated for a moment before taking his hand into hers and intertwining their fingers.

'Screw it, screw the fears' She said to herself while holding his hand.

And just like she said, and just like he felt about her hugs.

When they held hands her fears disappeared, and replaced by last, love and happiness.

By a few minutes into their way the rain made his second appearance of the day.

Tom's heart immediately beat faster than it ever beat before.

His favorite things combined together.

A feeling he never thought he needed, a feeling he never thought that will save him from himself.

"It's getting cold" Zendaya chuckled, rubbing her arms a few times.

"Put your hands in the holes of my sweater" he suggested making the girl smile.

"I don't want to let go of your hand" she said truthfully, earning a blush from his face.

"Than don't"

Cause it's too cold For you here and now So let me hold Both your hands in the holes of my sweater
