Today my friends made fun of her.
They laughed at her eye that was black around the rim.
I told them to stop.
They asked why I cared.
I didn’t say anything.
At lunch I saw her again.
She sat alone with a tin lunch box.
I wanted to sit next to her.
She turned to look at me.
I waved at her.
She didn’t wave back.
