He drives me home.
I’m scared.
He knows about her.
That's why he’s coming.
He walks me to the door.
I open it.
It’s never locked.
My mother sees him before she sees me.
Her eyes are angry.
She yells at him.
She yells at me too.
She says I’m trying to get her in trouble.
I say I’m not.
She slaps me.
My cheek hurts.
He tells me to wait in the car.
I say I won’t.
He repeats himself.
He repeats himself loudly.
I listen.
He comes back later.
He has my clothes in his hands.
I didn’t have much.
He says I’m sleeping over.
I cross my fingers.
I don’t talk.
