Chapter 26:
He’s following me.
It makes me happy.
I don’t show it though.
I open the door.
My mom is on the couch watching TV.
She turns around.
She’s smiling.
A mad kind of smile.
He looks at her and tells her his name.
She looks at me.
Then at him.
Her smile grows.
He doesn't seem to notice.
We go upstairs.
He says he likes my mom.
I thought he knew what she did.
But he doesn’t.
I won’t tell him.
He asks what's wrong.
I say nothing.
He says he doesn’t believe me.
I say I don’t care.
He asks again.
I ignore him.
I sit on my bed.
He sits next to me.
He says he’s glad were friends.
I say we’re not.
He doesn’t leave.
He doesn’t say he’s mad.
He just says we will be.
He thinks we’ll be friends.
But we won’t.
We can’t.
We sit in silence.
Then I lie down.
Then he does too.
I don’t cry this time.
I want to though.
I really do.
