They had a trial.
A trial of what to do.
Her mom disappeared.
So I took her place.
I said what happened.
And everything I knew about her.
I said she could stay with me.
The judge disagreed.
She was sitting there.
She looked at me.
And she wasn’t the same.
She looked less sad.
Less confused.
Just less.
It wasn't her anymore.
