"Are we there yet?"

"Jacob, it's literally been two minutes."

"No one asked you!"

"Nobody ever asks me- that's why I just have to say things."

"Aileen, Jacob, relax. We will be there soon, let me just speed up a little-"

"No more speed, we are already thirty over!"

"Where's the fun if we aren't breaking the law?"

"Where's the fun in jail?"

"Hey! Jail can be fun! I've been there, and it isn't even that bad."

"I'm scared of jail! I heard there are dementors there."

"Jacob, that's ridiculous. Who told you that?"

"Aileen."

"Well that's not true. And even if it were, I'd protect you."

"Aw, Carson! I'm blushing!"

"Should we leave you two alone? Or..."

"Camille, just focus on the road. And slow down!"

"Boo."

"Is there a ghost in here?"

"Jacob, you're not funny."

"Oh, and YOU are?"

"Why yes, actually."

"Whatever."

We were all sitting in the car driving to Wendy's. Camille was driving, why they always let her drive, I don't know, and Carson was riding shotgun. Aileen, Jacob, and I were smushed in the back as usual, and I sat in the middle to prevent any fights from breaking out.

It hadn't worked so far, as they simply leaned over me and fought.

"Why must you always hurt my feelings!" Jacob demanded, practically in my lap he was leaning so far.

"I can't let you have too much confidence," Aileen shot back, "Wouldn't want the world to turn upside down."

Jacob then got a mischievous look on his face,. "What if you told you that you turned my world upside down?"

Aileen went to respond, then closed her mouth. "Was that a pick up line?"

"Did it work?"

"No."

"Then no, it was just a pun."

I shoved Jacob back into his seat, tired of him practically sitting on top of me, and he pouted. "I expected that from Aileen, but not you Hayley. I thought we were friends."

"If it makes you feel better, I don't let my other friends sit on my lap either," I offered.

He sighed heavily and looked out the window.

It was almost peaceful, besides us going 80 in a 50mph zone.

"I think we really should slow down," I said nervously, watching the speedometer continue to increase.

The others might be comfortable with this, but I was not one for speeding.

"Of course not!" Camille snorted. "Besides, no ones going to catch us!"

Suddenly, a siren went off behind us.

Carson glared at her, "Nice going, Camille, you jinxed us!"

"Hey, is this really my fault?" She protested, pulling over to the side of the road.

"Yes," We all said.

She rolled her eyes as a policeman walked over to the side of our car and tapped impatiently on the window.

Camille rolled it down, and I was surprised to see that it was the same cop from before.

How were we supposed to get out of this a third time?

"Well, if it isn't the troublemakers," he commented, looking at each of us in turn.

I gulped as his eyes met mine, and then they continued over everyone.

"So," He began, crossing his arms. "How are you planning to get out of a ticket this time?"

"Begging?" I offered.

"Crying?" Camille suggested.

"Money?" Carson guessed.

His glare deepened. "No, no, and no."

Aileen whispered to us, "If it comes down to it, I'll fight them off while you guys run."

"I can hear you, your whispering is terrible."

Aileen scowled and sat back against the seat.

"What if we made a deal, Officer..." Camille trailed off, looking for his name tag.

"Jeff," the cop said.

"Officer Jeff," Camille continued. "Then we both win!"

Officer Jeff shook his head, "That was a nice try, but I'm afraid it won't work. I'll let you off with a warning just this once, however."

Then he took out a pad of paper and a pen, and jotted something down.

Then he tore it off and handed it to Camille, saying, "We better not meet like this again, or I'll give you more than a ticket."

Camille accepted the paper and saluted him. "Thank you for all your hard work, Officer Jeff. Have a great day."

With that he turned around and walked back to his car, and Camille rolled up her window.

"What does the paper say?" I asked, leaning forward to see it better.

Camille looked at it more closely. "It's a phone number. And at the bottom it says, 'I get of at 5' with a winking face."

I raised my eyebrows. "Wow. I didn't expect that based on your encounters. Are you actually going to call him?"

Camille thought. "Sure, why not."

This surprised me.

"But you guys didn't seem to get along at all!" I protested. "Why would you meet him?"

Camille smiled and shrugged, "Sometimes the best couples are the most unlikely ones."

I leaned back, absorbing this answer.

And I might have imagined it, but out of the counter of my eyes I saw Aileen and Jacob sneak a peek at each other, then look quickly away.

Hmm.
