chapter 5 : Another flash pregancy (Jacob's pov)
For a moment I was just sitting there, thinking 'Wow, man I'm going to be a father, can you believe it? And twins, how amazing is that? There is one thing that bothers me though, if the doc is right, and between you and me I didn't understand everything he said, but it sounded like it made sense. Anyway, if he's right, one of my kids is going to be just like me, an awesome ass-kicking werewolf, (yeah I don't like the sound of that shapeshifter thing, not nearly bad ass enough) and the other one is going to be some sort of blood sucking mind reading shapeshifting super freak (super freak is how I call Bella). Now don't get me wrong, I think being a werewolf is awesome, I love it, but I know from experience that siblings fight, even if just for fun. And right now it sounds like one of my kids (the werewolf) is systematically going to get his(/her) ass handed to them by the other one. I'm just not sure it's a good way to develop brotherly love, I guess we're just going to have to be careful.'
But then I came back to the present, and to my lovely wife who was going through major changes. It had been 3 days since we found out she was pregnant, and from the way she kept hurling, feeling faint, and asking for food, only to start the cycle again, it looked like she was on the fast track, just like her mom 12 years before. The doc had managed to bring back donor blood, and Edward, Alice, and Esmee were organized in shifts in the kitchen so everything was good as far as nutrition went.
But then something weird happened, I had left the room to go take a look in the kitchen, when I heard Emmet gasp in shock ”what the hell was that?” Then of course Edward being nosy by nature
”Nessie, did you do that?”
”Do what? I didn't move from the couch?”
”I just had the very compelling impression that I was starving, despite the fact that I just came back from a hunt 3 hours ago. And I don't mean thirsty, I had a sudden craving for cinnamon rolls. Which is just wrong, I tried some during lunch period a few years back, they tasted like dirt coming in, and worse going out.” Emmet said with his usual finesse, apparently understanding what Edward was saying.
”But I didn't touch you. I mean I did just have a craving for cinnamon rolls, I tried to find someone I could touch, because I didn't really want to speak. and when I realized you were all too far away I looked at Emmet frustrated because I knew that I would either have to stand up or speak”
”You do realize that your father already knew that, and that had you waited 30 seconds, I would have brought you some” I said a bit concerned about her quick temper, it wasn't like her.
”I know. I think it's the hormones”
”It probably is” Edward said, easing my concern ”But if we could get back to the bigger question. How did you show Em you were hungry without touching him?”
”How am I supposed to know? I didn't even realize I was doing it. I was just doing the same thing I do when I show people stuff by touching them, but there was nobody to touch, and then I was looking at Emmet. Do you think it's a pregnancy thing, you know heightened sensitivity or something?”
”it could be baby, try showing something to your mom” Edward suggested her.
”But she's not even here, how can I show her anything. It's not like I was focusing on Emmet when it happened, I was looking at him. Do you think it'll go away after the pregnancy, because it would be seriously cool if I kept it.”
”Don't get ahead of yourself, we're not even sure if that's it yet. Why don't you try Jacob.”And she did, and it worked. Just like it did when she did it by touch, I got a very strong 'I love you' and an even stronger 'now bring me some cinnamon rolls' which Edward found hilarious, but being a good husband I went to the kitchen to get her some. I mean, the woman's pregnant, she's allowed to get bossy. I even think she's expected to.
Apart from this unexpected turn of event, her 5 weeks of pregnancy went by in a pretty uneventful manner. Contrary to the previous pregnancy in the Cullen family, this time there was no angry wolf pack determined to kill the fetus, the mother and the rest of us. So, focusing on Nessie's needs was surprisingly easy, not to mention that she is way stronger than Bella was at the time, so we were confident that the delivery would go without a problem. The doc even gave us a theory about the ratio between mother and child being the same as when a human woman gives birth to a human baby. Honestly the science talk gives me headaches, but whatever, he knows his stuff.
About 3 weeks into the pregnancy Edward started hearing their thoughts, he was surprised because he expected to hear only one of them, but the doc reminded him that no power is exactly the same in two different persons. And anyway I thought 'Nessie didn't communicate with her mom while in utero. She only started showing us stuff once she was born, so maybe it's going to be the same. Oh my god, I actually thought of this one on my own, I think the doc's nerdyness is getting to me, I need to take a nap', Edward got a big laugh out of this one but he also seemed to agree with me.
Once I came back from my nap, everybody had been informed of Nessie's latest miracle, and Jasper was taking care of her mood swings. Of course Edward and the doc were discussing whether or not Renesmee was going to keep this upgrade. Apparently there were arguments for both possibilities, so we would just have to wait a couple of weeks. Edward is a big supporter of the whole set in stone theory, and according to him once a vampire undergoes a major change, it is permanent. The doc seems to think the hormone imbalance theory to be more plausible. Me, just because I said something that made scientific sense once, don't expect it to happen all the time, I have no clue.
Finally the D day came, and everyone was there. In the fifth week we knew that it was only a matter of time so the doc took some time of. He's no obstetrician, but he's the next best thing, and I have to tell you Edward made a very convincing midwife. I was way too stressed out to do much of anything beside holding Renesmee's hand and praying to whatever god there might be that everything would go according to plan. Which I'm quite happy to say that it did. I now have 2 beautiful babies, an Olivia who we assume is a werewolf, and a Michael who is clearly half vampire half something else. It seems that the pattern that Nahuel suggested is correct, because my boy is venomous. We're going to need to teach him not to bite very fast because it's supposed to be deadly to werewolves. Killed by my baby boy, now that would suck.
