chapter 9 : Long time no see

(Bella's pov)

Despite her whining about not seeing the kids, Alice was glad to have her sixth sense back. They weren't gone for 20 minutes when she started telling us when they would get here and how long they were planning on staying.

So I left for the airport at nightfall with Alice, being with her when she's in full control of her senses is like having a GPS with instantaneous traffic update plus a direct line to the airport information. So we arrived at the great falls international airport just in time to catch Benjamin and Tia coming out the door.

”Hi girls, how's everyone?”

”We're doing great, I have to warn you though, Nessie isn't here, she went to visit her father in law with her husband, it had been planned for weeks, we're so sorry.” Alice said, lying though her teeth, but it was what we had agreed on.

”too bad, but I guess that's what we get for not calling in advance. Quick question though, couldn't you have chosen a place farther away from everything? I mean it's not like we had to take three different planes to get here.”

”We need the weather in order to mix with the population. How do you even do it in Egypt, seriously, do you come out at all in the daytime?” I asked, truly curious.

”Most of the time we don't, and anyway, everybody is covered from head to toe over there, so no skin shows.”

It took us about a half hour to get home from the airport. During that time, Alice kept asking questions non stop about life in Egypt. After all, she didn't see much of them the last time they ”visited”, what with her pretending to having deserted us and all.

When we got home, everybody was acting all hyped up that they were here, which on some level they probably were, but really most of us were really pissed that we had to send away our little hybrids.

One of the first things Tia said was ”Carlisle do you know how long Nessie is going to be gone? No offense to all of you, but the main reason we wanted to pay you a visit so soon after the last time was to see how she had grown up. So we'd very much like to stay until she comes back.”

It kinda took us by surprise, or at least it took me by surprise, but apparently Alice must have been expecting it. Because Edward, no doubt having peaked in her mind came up with an answer. ”She's only spending the weekend, But Jacob is going to stay a while longer, he doesn't see his father very often.”

”Well that's OK, we didn't really bond anyway.”

Edward smirked at that, and when I went to him he told me ”what she was actually thinking was 'nevermind the dog, he reeks. Good thing we won't have to deal with that.' I don't think she likes him very much”

”You do realize that your daughter is not going to like the idea of coming back without her kids, not one bit. If you had asked me to do that kind of thing when she was their age I would have freaked. Is it really the best solution?”

”Well Alice didn't see how it would go with Nessie, I don't even know if she'll agree, but it seemed to be the only way of not making them suspicious. If we had told them that she was going to be gone as long as they were here, what do you think would have happened? When you think about it, we're doing this for the kids, and she will see it, we raised a smart girl.”

(Renesmee's pov)

While on our way to the Olympic peninsula we explained to the kids that we were going to see their second grandfather, and that because he wasn't like them, they shouldn't phase or use their powers, communicating using their pack mind being counted as one. The truth is, we had decided with the rest of the family that unless absolutely necessary we weren't going to tell anyone outside the 'Cullen clan' about how special they were, because we couldn't anticipate the kind of danger attached to this information.
