chapter 4 : A new wonder (Carlisle's pov)
Everybody had finally settled down, Renesmee and Jacob were enjoying their moment in each other's arms In a love seat, completely unaware of what was going on in the room. At some point, the parents being what they were, Edward asked, maybe more to himself than anything ”I wonder what they will be like with a parentage like theirs. Even Renesmee's case seems straight forward compared to this” Maybe Jacob and Renesmee weren't as unaware of their surroundings as they seemed, because this did get their attention. ”I'm sure grandpa has a theory on that, or at least you know part of the answer. Listen to that Jake, you're not going to believe it”
”You are right I do have a theory, but before telling you about what I think might be, let me tell you what I know. I'm not going to enter the specifics of how I know this, just trust me. One of them is part vampire, the other one is not. Using what we know from Bella's pregnancy, it's safe to say that you're going to need a regular diet of blood, human would probably be the better option. But considering that one of the babies has no vampiric traits whatsoever, you're also going to need regular food. Now for the guess work, if regular genetics still applies, both babies having received half of their genetic make up from Jacob, they should both have shapeshifting abilities. But again, that's assuming that regular genetics applies, and if it did, the probability of one having absolutely no vampiric characteristics is slim to non existent. My best guess Renesmee is that being half human half vampire it is normal to have 2 eggs, one with a vampire genome, one with a human genome. But that's just a guess, it's not like we have previous cases to compare it to. Another wild guess, once again extrapolated from your birth Nessie, sorry Bella, Renesmee. You exhibited abilities that in a way were the exact opposite of those of your parents, the logic conclusion would be that your half vampire child is going to have abilities opposite yours, in other words similar to those of Edward and Bella. They probably won't be exactly the same, no two vampires have exactly the same power as far as I know.”
Jacob had been listening very carefully, but wanted to make sure he had understood every thing, ”So if I understood everything, and if you're right doc, one of my kids is going to be a shapeshifting mind reading vampire with a shield, and the other one is going to be a werewolf”
”I think it should be something along those lines, it could also be a lot more complicated, we just can't be sure. Being two supernatural being in the uterus of another supernatural being, who knows what can happen. There aren't that many people like your wife, and I'm ready to bet that this pregnancy is an absolute first. Anyway, starting today we need to monitor Renesmee at all time, we have no way of knowing the gestation period in advance, so if Bella's pregnancy taught us something, it's to expect anything.”
