"So, let me get this straight..." Genma raised an eyebrow. "You're getting a kid?"
Beside him, Anko roared.
Ibiki sighed inwardly, sensing a headache brewing. Following the Grand Assembly, the head of T&I had spent the whole day dealing with paperwork concerning his guardianship over the Uchiha girl as well as her temporary integration in his force; while the girl was being interrogated and mind-read by Yamanaka Inoichi.
It wasn't until the following day that he was able to update his trusted men about the ordeal. If only the concerned trusted men weren't hell-bent in making it more difficult than it already was.
"No, Shiranui. We are getting a kid." Ibiki corrected with a bland tone. "She's under the responsibility of T&I as a whole."
"Doesn't change the fact that she will be living with you from now on." Anko laughed in glee before faking a proud tear. "To think that little Ibiki would become a parent... I'm moved."
Hayate Gekkō, the only sane and (thankfully) silent one of them sent Ibiki a look of sympathy that the man nearly overlooked. Really, it was too early for this shit.
"It's surprising though." Genma spoke up, twirling the senbon in his mouth. "How can a death proclamation masked in a righteous meeting turn into this?"
"Clearly, the girl is resourceful. I find it hard to believe those old geezers would run the risk of making her join us if she wasn't worth it." Anko stated with a mischievous smirk. "An Uchiha in T&I! Must be the first time that one gets so closed to the village's affairs."
"You've talked of tutelage, Ibiki-san." Hayate spoke for the first time. "What does 'tutelage' stand for?"
"Beside keeping an eye on her twenty-four seven?" Ibiki tapped his office desk with a finger. "Basically, the kid might have useful information that we must dig out swiftly."
"What kind of info?" Genma asked with an eyebrow raised.
"Those kinds that would need few ten-year infiltration missions to gather." The answer left Anko and Genma to whistle while Hayate looked shocked.
"This is getting better and better." Anko grinned. "I suppose sharpening her skills is part of the deal?"
"To think you'd even ask..." The man closed his eyes as his fellow comrade cheered at the news. He should have known that Mitarashi would be the most thrilled about all of this mess.
Genma analyzed the situation and, suddenly, something seemed abnormal. "Inoichi-san read her mind yesterday, right? Then, why are we needed for digging out information?"
Hayate frowned, having realized the plot hole. "That's right. Did he encounter some problems? That'd be a shock; not many can resist Yamanaka-san's clutch."
Ibiki said nothing right away and the room was filled with the hammerings of his finger against his grey desk. Sunlight filtered through the window in an attempt to color up the dark atmosphere the office always seemed to dwell within; in vain. Ibiki had always made it a point of honor to keep the place as simple as possible. A simple grey office surrounded by four white walls, a bookshelf to his left and a coffee table to his right.
People would call him a minimalist but it served a clear purpose. An over-furniture-d room could either put someone at ease or make them uncomfortable. In either case, your judgement of their thoughts can be biased. That; and the fact that he wouldn't bother decorate. at. all.
The hammering stopped.
"Do you guys remember the 'Sasako Sadaki Incident'?" The three tokubetsu jonins cringed at the mention of the concerned incident. They couldn't forget it even if they tried.
