After a hasty breakfast, Gabe,Clem,and AJ went out to find James while the other teens finished up on their jobs. Tonight was the night and tension was running high.
Gabe,with Clem and AJ, walked down a forest trail. He had no idea where James would be but Clem was leading the way so he wasn't worried.
"So, Gabe...About James...he's,uh...different." Clementine said to him,she was clearly struggling to describe James. "He doesn't like killing people...or walkers."
"Really?" Gabe asked, quite surprised. "It's impressive he's made it this long if that's the case."
"He wears walker skin, so he can blend in with the herds."
Gabe's eyebrows shot up, "That's...creepy but kinda cool." He shook his head suddenly, "Wait no, that's sickening! Walkers were people! He's literally wearing someone else's skin!"
Clem shrugged, "James does what he has to to stay alive."
"He should'a been a man about it..." Gabe muttered, wondering what kinda filth would wear human skin but didn't want to kill.
"Just....try not to piss him off." Clem sighed, "Like it or not, we need him."
"Whatever...let's get this over with." Gabe said, adjusting his baseball bat strap.
AJ quietly listened to their conversation, James had saved his life but he didn't see any good reason to not kill a walker, so he remained quiet.
Clementine spotted a couple walkers in the woods in front of them, they seemed to be standing around a campfire. Clem and AJ hide behind a log with Gabe close behind them. They looked over it but didn't see James.
"You think he's wearing the skin?",Gabe asked in a whisper.
"I don't know." Clem whispered back, "James!" She said in a harsh whisper.
There was a rustle behind them and Gabe spun around with his bat drawn. A man crouched a few feet away with his hands up.
"James!" AJ said in a happy whisper.
James walked over to them while Gabe sheathed his bat.
"Hello...Why were you looking for me?" He asked quietly.
"We need your help. Lilly's men are planning to attack the school so we were planning to strike first. We need some walkers for cover to sneak up on their boat so we can ambush them."
James didn't answer but he exhaled unhappily, "Maybe...but I can't do anything without my mask and I left it in my camp. If you can help me get it back maybe I can help you..."
"Maybe?" Gabe asked with a scowl.
"Sure. We'll keep them off your back while you sneak over and grab your mask." Clem said hastily before Gabe could blow their,already slim,chance.
"Thanks...but I must ask you not to kill them." James said, referring to the walkers with his head.
"You gotta be shiting me." Gabe groaned, "...Fine but make sure you hurry your ass up." He added after Clem gave him a quick look.
"You go with AJ. Me and Gabe will distract them." Clem said,before James nodded and crept around the log with AJ right behind him.
"Ready?" Clem asked,as she drew her knife.
"Your friend is a real pain, you know." Gabe grumbled as he grabbed his bat.
