sunset

you came softly into my life
and left
before i knew you'd arrived.

I glanced up to see you beside me,
but only
in the corner of my eye.

like a sunset none saw you approaching—
but stopped
to watch you go.

I spent the whole night mourning you.
if only
I had known.

oh, if you'd come to see me
this time
I'll wait for you.

but when you enter like the dawn,
I think,
you're someone new
