almost a touch

19 3 7

got a little too close to my heart that day
almost wished I could let you stay
pulled you in and then pushed you away
but you say it's okay

and my thoughts are running away again

the sound of your voice—almost a touch
the scent of your hair—almost too much
my hand in yours—not quite enough
when your eyes meet mine—almost a touch

got a little too close to more than friends
I know what you'd do if I let you in
but I won't start or it'll have to end
you're all in, I won't bend

and my heart is running away (again)
just touch me and I'll be okay (again)
but I swear I can't let you stay (again)
or it has to end

the look in your eyes—almost a touch
the distance between us—almost too much
you're in my arms—never enough
your breath on my skin—almost a touch

you whisper my name, you're touching my heart, I know what you want, I'm falling apart, we're a little too close, we're touching almost, a little too close, a little too close

kiss my cheek say you'll get the other next time (the softest touch)
kiss my hair let me pretend this is fine (never too much)
kiss my hand say if I ask you'll be mine (almost enough, almost enough, almost a touch)

yeah it's a little too close to my heart, your touch
but not close enough
