ALANA
I decided to jog to Phoebe's class. Yes, apparently even in the zombie apocalypse there is still school. If this room that held around ten children could even be classified as a school.
I knocked on the door that was already opened, just to let the teacher, who looked like she was just finishing her lunch know that I had arrived. Phoebe's face immediately brightened when she saw me, she almost tripped over one of those small colorful chairs in her way over to me. Stooping to her level, she wrapped her arms around me in a tight embrace.
"You came" she said smiling as she pulled away from the hug.
"Of course I did. I made a promise to you didn't I?" She grinned before pulling me into the room filled with children, bringing me to a green table that had two other girls sitting there already.
"Are these your friends?" I ask looking at the small children.
"Yes this is Lola and this is Tamia" she said pointing to them as she introduced me.
I waved at them and they both smiled shyly at me.
"Today I learnt long division" she said pulling out her math book, with much eagerness.
"Really now?" I ask sitting on two chairs instead of one. I was glad she adjusted to easily to the Fort, the people here were beyond welcoming.
"Yes. I got a sticker because I got them all correct!" She said proudly.
"That's amazing" I say opening my backpack and taking out a ziplock bag that had four sandwiches inside. From the first day we were brought here, Emily has been working with the cooks and she always makes sure to give me sandwiches before lunch. I never liked the rush that came with the lunch-hour.
She's a lifesaver.
I give Phoebe two and keep the remainder for myself. The other girls are almost finished eating, so I decide to eat my sandwiches.
"Today we are have a meeting. Would you like to come?" I ask biting into the sandwich.
She nods immediately.
"There wouldn't be any other children there to play with, only grown-ups. Are you sure you want to come with me?" I ask again.
"That's okay" she said.
There was a pause before her eyes brightened and she looked at me,
"Oh I almost forgot. My friend said that your hair is really pretty~"
Her friends clearly have good taste.
"Really? Which one?" I ask looking at both Tamia and Lola.
She leaned over to me and covered her mouth as if she was hiding what she was going to say.
"Lola"
I chuckled lightly. Lola reminded me of Sammantha a bit. Her caramel skin and curly hair was styled in two buns. Sammantha was still in the infirmary. She'd been shot in the stomach and removing the bullet was a lengthy and careful process. She'd been there for a week straight, I really hope she'd come out soon.
Andre hadn't left her side since.
We were allowed to visit her as much as we'd liked and I did everyday. The person who fired the shot would have to pay. It was only right.
