Lunch time! It had a different meaning for everyone. For some it was time to catch up with friends over the latest school gossip, others spent their time doing the never-ending supply of homework that seemed to be given at this school. For Sarah it was time to spend lost in her own world drawing.

Drawing was her escape. It allowed her to step into whatever world she needed at the time in order to get through the day. Most of the time her chosen escape was in the fantasy world where Troy Maxwells gave a crap about her. Sarah had been hopelessly crushing on Troy Maxwells for the last two years. The downfall, he was also her best friends' other best friend, which meant she spent a lot of time hanging out with Troy and having to hide her feelings.

Today Sarah was focused on getting his eyes exactly right. Troy has these piercing blue eyes. With just one glance she was hooked. Even now if she caught sight of his eyes her chest would swell, making them her greatest weakness. Troy was always watching everything, it just never seemed that he was watching her. Sarah was just the girl who tagged along sometimes with his best friend. Not worth a second thought.

On this typical lunch hour, she was sitting with her best friend Claire Thomas, at their usual table in the back of the cafeteria right beside the garbage cans. They sit there because it is the closest to the door, meaning more time for hanging and less time walking to class, at least that is what they told themselves. The cafeteria itself was a basic room, with white walls, a stainless-steel food counter, and round tables scattered throughout. Outside behind the building was a fenced off courtyard that had picnic tables and benches for the students to use weather permitting. However, that was a rare case in Alberta.

They attend Schofield-McDagean Boarding School for the Rich and the Poor, located in central Alberta. Sarah was there on a scholarship, one of the few discount scholarships given, and she was proud of it. Schofield-McDagean awarded only five discount scholarships every year in order to be known as an inclusive boarding school for both the rich and the poor. All Sarah had to do was keep her grades at the honor role level and play on one of the sports teams. If she kept to those standards, she got to attend the school at a discounted rate, which she found amazing!

Sarah came from a lower middle-class family in small town Alberta. Her mom had passed away when she was only six years old, and she had been living with her aunt and uncle ever since. Sarah's dad was never in the picture, he took off the moment he found out her mom was pregnant and has chosen to never contact her.

Sarah's Uncle was known for loitering at the local bar, which put financial strain on her already struggling family. Not to mention he was not pleasant to be around after a few drinks. Her Aunt was doing the best she could but was also amazingly good at ignoring the whole situation. Seeing as Sarah's home life was not the greatest, her Aunt jumped at the opportunity to send her away to Schofield-McDagean. Now Sarah had great prospects for the future, and more opportunities open to her than if she would have stayed at home taking care of her family.

Sarah and Claire met on Sarah's first day at Schofield-McDagean four years ago. They were assigned as roommates and became instant besties. Claire was spunky and unpredictable, while Sarah tended to be more reserved and quieter. Claire was known to show up to class in a neon tutu and skin-tight tank tops, while Sarah was always hiding in a flowy top and a sweater. Claire had dark brown shoulder length hair that she was constantly adding colored extensions to. The extensions seemed to always compliment her outfits. While Sarah always tided her blonde hair up in a messy knot on the top of her head. The most noticeable difference between the two girls was Sarah was clearly much taller than Claire. That never stopped Claire from raiding Sarah's closet though. Even though the girls had a vastly different sense of style Claire could always find what she was looking for in either closet.
