~ Chris ~

-Kyd?
I enter the sickbay, I want to know how she is, Tilly's disappearance has shocked everyone.
-Kyd...
She is working on a console, relentlessly, since yesterday.  I wonder if she slept tonight...
-Kyd, it's late, it's eleven... you have to rest... You've worked without stopping since yesterday...
She gets up abruptly, I've never seen her like this.
-Should I be in my quarters instead of searching Tilly?
-Kyd, there's  no need to ...
-No need to do what?  You don't know anything Chris!-.  She has tears in her eyes.  -You came on this ship not long ago, you have no idea what we went through!  While we were here, getting killed by those filthy bastards you were away!
-I...
-You don't know that we have become a family, we have shared pain, 'till the end!  And if you think that only one of us would waste a single second of his life not helping Tilly, you're wrong!
-Kyd, I want to find Tilly as much as you, damn! I'm her captain!  But I worry about you.  I just want to help you... please...
-Help me Chris?  How?  I lost Hugh, I lost my home, my friends, my boyfriend... I lost my son Chris... I lost everything... everything!  You can't help me!
I'm speechless ... I didn't think she'd been through all this.
-Everything I loved was taken from me, and now I only have this crew that welcomed me like a family! And I wouldn't leave this place even if you ordered it.  Please go away!
-Grace, please ...
-Get out...
I sigh, I can't bear to see her so destroyed.  I leave the sickbay with my heart broken.

-What is it? - I ask her, pointing to a book on her table.
-A ... a book?
-Thanks, I never would have said ...
She takes the book and holds it in her hand.
-"The subtle harmony of the Opposites".
-Never heard!
-It is from the 21st century, of a writer who was already little known at the time.  It has been a property of my family for two hundred years.
-It's nice?
-It is not one of the most original stories, but... it has something special.  I don't know, it left me something inside that I can't explain.  It's like the story belonged to me, even though I've never experienced anything like it...
I take the book, and read the first page I open.  -Small grains of sand, puffs of air in an endless sky of stars, clouds, planets, meteorites.  Animated by the desire for self-preservation, by the fear of disappearing, by a burning desire to do everything to prolong our flatus, and considerations on considerations about who the hell we are and what the hell we're doing.  Well, interesting...
I feel like she's looking at me.
-Is it all right?-, I ask her.
-You have a beautiful voice Chris ... it's relaxing to hear you read ...
I approach her, I stroke her face.
-Then... I'll read this book whenever you want...
