"Mark you can't just drop everything and leave?" Lucas said, we were in my room as I was trying to book a flight to Osaka, Japan.
I didn't respond and instead continued to plan things for my trip.
"Come on, Mark. How sure are you that she is in Japan?" Yeri was the one to speak, I clicked the book flight button before turning around and facing the both of them.
"I'm not." Answering Yeri's question as I give her a small smile. "But there's nothing with trying, right?"
I saw how Lucas and her looked at each other and gave each other a look before turning to face me again, nodded once and smile.
"Why'd you assumed she's in Osaka?" Lucas asked, opening a can of beer and giving it yo Yeri before he opened another one for him.
"Look at this." I said, turning to my bag and pulling out my phone and show them the picture of Koeun's house.
"For sale? When was that posted?" Yeri exclaimed, grabbing my phone and trying to take a closer look of the photo
I shrugged, "I have no idea. But she just went here not long ago. Either last Christmas or Spring when we were too busy with school activities to even notice." Lucas shook his head, sipping his beer while chuckling
"How can we not notice her." I smiled, feeling so dumb.
"And look, I found this inside her room."
"You went inside their house?!" Yeri exclaimed, she almost spit out her drink at me and Lucas laughed loudly at her. I chuckled and opened a can of beer for myself, and nodded.
"Excuse me..." I started, rushing to one of Koeun's neighbours when I saw them went outside their home. "Do you by chance see Koeun went here last time?"
He shook his head and sighed, "it has been 2 years since I last saw her and her mother." I nodded and stared at their house.
I walked to front of their house and tried to open the door but it was locked, I tried looking around to see if there is a spare key they'd left but to avail.
"She's not that stupid.." I hissed at myself and looked up, squinted my eyes and inhaled. I tried going to their backdoor, and luckily, it was left unlocked.
My heart was beating fast as every step felt like I was near in seeing Koeun again, I stepped inside their empty house as I scanned around and saw nothing but dusty chairs, tables and floors. I even saw a spiderweb on the ceiling.
I tried to go inside Koeun's room, but it was locked. "Not again." I whispered and tried to force myself in it, banging my whole body to the door.
I let out a heavy breathe before running towards the door and banging my whole weight for one last time, and it opened.
I fell on the floor because of extreme force as I coughed because of the dusts.
As I blinked my eyes, I saw how Koeun's room was not changed at all. Her bed was neatly folded and her sheets are still the same pink satin as the last time I saw them. Some of her things are also here left untouched.
I stood up and sat at the edge of her bed, my hands roam around the sheet as I felt the soft fabric. I made my way down to her bedside table and tried to open the drawers one by one, but nothing was there. I crouched down and looked under the bed but only to be greeted by more dusts.
I made my way to check her closets, but found nothing.
"No trace." I whispered and sat on her bed again, closing my eyes as I feel hopeless again, I slump my whole body on her bed as I felt my nape hit something springy, I quickly sat up and looked under her pillow, and saw a small notebook, used and no pages left unwritten.
I quickly smile as I flip the pages one by one, knowing fully well that this was Koeun's handwriting.
"Even with a foreign language, her handwriting is still beautiful." I said to myself as I saw how everything was written in Japanese
I flipped to the last page and saw a long written note. My forehead creased as I saw how my name was written in it, I tried to understand a word but I was not really able to decipher it.
"Mark, 今でもあなたの声は私の耳に残る 私の名前をもう一度声をかけてほしい 私が泣いたように 私は自分のいる場所に気づきました、 そして頭を上げた"
- Ko EunI sighed and closed it. Placing it inside my bag and scanning her room again for one last time.
"I'll see you soon, Koeun."
"She went inside mine so.." I casually said and shrugged. I gave them a small notebook and they saw Koeun's handwriting.
"It's written in Kanji." Yeri said, as I watched them flipped the pages one by one. "Look at the back of that notebook."
They followed my instructions and saw something embedded in it.
"AIWIN?" they both read it then looked at me
"It's an international school in Japan." I explained, showing them my computer as I searched every information I can yesterday night. "I am thinking she is studying there."
"Are you really sure you're going? We can find her another way, we can-"
"I'm going"
Yeri sighed in defeat as she proposed a toast to Lucas and I.
"Cheers!" She raised her can and we followed suit. "For Koeun."
We smiled and clank our cans as we gulped it down together.
When it was already 10PM. I started packing my stuff in my big black backpack as Lucas cleaned the empty beer cans on the floor.
"Are you ready?"
I smiled at him as I nodded. I wore a jacket and put my earphones on of the pockets, wearing my bag over my shoulders, I turned to face my two friends as I smiled at them.
"No." I truthfully said, he walked towards me and gave me a hug as we caressed each other's back.
"Bring her back."
It was already 1AM, my flight leaves in 30 minutes and I was waiting for it in the airport. I was listening to some music when I decided to check on Koeun's small notebook again. I tried installing an app where I can translate her words.
"Not accurate enough." I said to myself as some words and sentences were not making sense.
"Korea to Japan flight, please get ready your plane has just arrive and is ready to board." The announcement made me perk up as I closed the notebook and put it on my bag, I stood up as I boarded the plane with the other passengers.
I'm coming, Koeun-ah. Wait for me.
