"Come on." He grabbed my hands in his. "Please? Just once." He pushed in for a kiss but I turned away.

"No!" I pulled off him. "Go away! Leave me alone!"

"Listen to yourself. You're confused. You love me!" He opened his arms as if for a hug and moved closer.

I backed up a step everytime he took a step. I felt a thud of the sliding door on my back.

He placed his hands on either side of my shoulders and pressed me against the glass.

I turned my head to see what was out the door. There was no balcony, no floor, nothing. Just the pavement twenty stories below.

He puts his lips to my ear and whispered,"See you there." And he pulled the door open, pushing me to the air, and down the the streets.

I quickly sat up and clutched my blanket to my chest. Sweat poured from my forehead and onto the bed. I felt a warmth rub across my arm and I flopped back into my pillow fort. The warmth crawled over my stomache. "Thomas." I groaned as my cat pressed into my chest.

"Naow to you too." I said responding to his meow. I pulled him up onto my pillows and laid my head beside his.

I put off the nightmare for now, because they've been happening a lot since my family was killed in a fire. I convinced the judge to let me live by myself even though I was only fifteen. He agreed as long as someone checked in on me every week or so.

I realized it was one of those weeks when I heard a knock on the front door. I sighed and called out, "Hold on a minute!" I took a deep breath and kissed Thomas on the head and said, "Lucky. You don't have to get up." I slipped my feet onto the rough wood floor.

I shivered. I looked down and realized I was only wearing one of my dad's old suit shirts. His favorite: A black silk button-down with white cuffs. I personally think it looked better on me than him.

I loosly pulled on my socks and zombied myself to the door and opened it.

A tall, scragley woman with shoulder length brown hair stepped into the doorway. "Hello Jenny." I said as she walked past me.

"Hello dear."

I closed the door and went over to the fireplace and pulled a matchbox from the mantle.

"I trust you're well."

I struck the match on the brick and watched the flame ignite. "Yes 'm" I threw the match onto a pile of starter wood and newspaper.

"Enough food?"

The fire started growing. "Yep."

She went into the kitchen and I heard her open a cabinet then close it again. I heard it three times, then she shrieked and a mouse ran into the living room. I put out my hand and he crawled into my palm and layed down.

Jen came into the living room and made a noise of disgust. " I honestly don't understand your liking for those animals."

I stroked the mouse's head. "Oh please. He's cute."

"He's a rodent and should be exterminated."

"Oh please Jen don't be so uptight."

She sighed. "Darlin' you're lucky you've made it this far. Don't take advantage of what you've got." she picked up her coat and put it on. "I'll be back next week to check up on you. Be good dear." She pecked me on the cheek and left.

I put my mouse on top of the mantle and used my sleeve to wipe the feeling of her lips away. I looked into the fire. Nobody but her has kissed me since my mother...... left. I don't even feel it anymore. I can't really feel powerful emotions. Like Love or hate. I can't even cry anymore.

I looked into the dimming flames. I closed the shudder around the flames, grabbed my mouse, and dragged myself into my room. I put Norm into his special bed under the lamp for warmth, and I buried myself under my blankets, pulled Thomas close and closed my eyes.
