A Twist of Fate- A Wrinkle in Time

I felt something push against my back, recoil, push, recoil, and push, and again, recoil. It felt as if someone was rocking me to sleep. I turned around and awoke immediately. Because I fell into what seemed like an endless pool of water.

I looked below me and a shimmer caught my eye. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My jaw dropped: The town of Terrine, enveloped by the downpours rain.

No. I mouthed, letting my lungs fill with water. I dove down and down as far as I could go before I had to go back up to breathe.

I clang to the grass that pierced through the water. I coughed up water and fell under again as a wave overcame me.

The water pushed me upward and onto the grass. I coughed until my eyes grew moist.

Water ran down my face and dripped into the grass. "James.... James.......I'm sorry...."

I buried my head in the ground so the moisture made it feel as if I was crying, feel as if I cared.

"Lucy."

My heart stopped cold. James?

"Lucy."

I lifted my head. "Go away. You're not rea--."

I shot a questioning glace at the figure that stood before me: Thomas.

"Thomas? How did you--?"

"If we're going to speak." Thomas moved closer and sat at my knees. "We could at least introduce ourselves properly. My name is Voltaire Cat."

"Voltaire? That name sounds so..."

"Ancient? Obvious?"

"Uh yes..."

"Well, there's no need to explain it now. We have more.....important things to discuss."

I stared at Cat.

How the Hell can he talk? Understand me and vise versa?

"I was cursed."

I jumped when he said this. "D-Did you just--"

"Answer your thoughts? The answer is yes."

I lifted him to my face.

"How do you do that, Cat?"

It comes with the territory.

"Ah!" I dropped him. That time, his voice wasn't spoken, it was in my head.
