Hello everyone :)
I finally uploaded my new story and I'm excited where it will take us!
Due to the main character suffering from depression, anxiety and panic attacks, I believe it's necessary to adress the topic mental health before we start with the story.
In the last couple of decades our society has changed and I'm afraid to say so, but I think that not all of these changes have been for the best. Psychologists say that there is an increase in mental illness/disorders (especially in depression, anxiety, panic attacks, etc.) and that could be due to the stress that we put ourselves through, but also because we want to meet the expectations of our environment (family, work, friends, ...).
Especially in today's time it's necessary to take good care of oneself and knowing what's or who's good for oneself, but I know that this is sometimes very hard as we don't have enough money or time. Often we also think that we don't deserve it.
Of course there are a lot of other different reasons for feeling mentally ill, but psychologists have discovered that our childhood and youth has a great impact on us and will therefore influence our mind set and decisions in the future. With my story I want to tell all people, who suffer from some kind of mental disorder that they're not alone and that it is not a weakness to seek help - it's a sign of strength!
Because they want to get better - and one big step is accepting (professional) help.
Getting better doesn't mean that there aren't going to be any bad days, because there will be, but those are proof that you've already accomplished so much - you've already experienced days, which were better!I'd also like to point out that prescribted drugs are not bad or the person who takes it isn't weak. Prescripted drugs help us in our first steps to get better - they support our mental health neurologically. The mistake some people make is that they believe that "just" the drugs will make them feel better, which is proven to be untrue. Drugs AND therapy is the key to recovery.
For people who are against taking drugs, my advice is talk to your psychologist/therapist/doctor/etc. about your fears.
Of course not all people with a mental disorder have to take drugs!Another prejudice concerning drugs is that you have to take them for the rest of your life which is mostly false. As you're getting better, the dose rate is going to get decreased until you won't need them anymore or just in special situations.
A lot of people think that they can just stop taking them one day, without discussing it with their psychologist/therapist/doctor/etc. first - please don't, a drug has to be tapered. If you just stop taking the drugs your mental health will decline again, because it was still being supported by the drugs. For the time being please trust your psychologist/therapist/doctor/etc. and if you feel uncomfortable talk to him/her about your troubles.
Please keep in mind that I'm not from the US and have no idea how your health system works, so if I confuse/am not aware a few things e.g. who is allowed to prescribe drugs please let me know.
Also if you have other opinions let me know :)
I wish you all a wonderful day and remind yourself that you're worth so much, so be kind to yourself, you're doing the best you can!
