WINNER 1: AnneMcKae
"Easy now," Dr. Moss says as I slide the needle into the patient's vein. It has been 324 days since the outbreak, and still, we've yet to find a cure.
My thumb rests on the edge of the syringe, ready to press the potential antidote into the infected host. He is an older man with graying red hair. The disease has already begun to eat the flesh of his face, but his eyes are still so human, so desperate, so scared. I withdraw the syringe. "Dammit, Vera!" Dr. Moss shouts. "We're running out of time. Just do it!"
"No! The last time I danced with death, I stepped on her toes! And now I see my daughter's face every time I close my eyes, and I just can't do this anymore."
"Vera, no one could have predicted your cure for cancer would breed a disease such as this."
"Well, it did! And now EVERY cure we conjure for THIS disease breeds something else FAR WORSE in return!"
