Michael was supposed to be off work by nine. I had gotten to the office building by eight thirty. A half hour to kill. I wondered around the first floor and poked my head into Beth's office. She had her head bent down over her typewriter muttering to herself trying to find the right word. Looking up and seeing me all the blood drained from her face.
