Pic of Riley to the side. That's how I imagine her but with ice blue eyes.
Chapter One
My name's Riley. I'm seventeen and live on the outskirts of town with my grandmother. My mother left when I was nine and my father was the only person in my family I never knew. My grandmother is the only person I trust, beside my best friend Jessamine. Any who, I digress. My grandmother is a witch just like me. That's my 'dirty' little secret.
"Riley!"
I love my grandmother to bits, but waking me up at such an ungodly hour isn't something I appreciate.
"I'm up." I muttered then walked into my closet, chose an outfit, then entered the bathroom. I dressed and pulled a comb through my hair. I went downstairs and into the kitchen.
"For a young one, you sure move like a sloth." Gram said putting a plate in front of me
"Morning to you too, Gram." I said
"I have a doctors appointment then I'm going to Mabel's afterward. You and Cindy will look after the shop today."
Gram owned the coolest bookstore/cafe in town called Brew. We make the best chocolate chip cookies.
I took a bite out of my omelette. "Ok."
After Gram left, I washed dishes then started out the door. I picked up my cat, Nala. She's completely black, but the tip of her tail is white. She has gray eyes that she likes to use to glare at people.
I started to the shop. As I opened the door, Cindy joined me.
"Morning." She said
I nodded and turned the sign over from 'Closed' to 'Open'. I went behind the counter of the bookstore as Cindy started on coffee. I put Nala down and she stretched and laid down. I rolled my eyes.
The bell over the door chimed and that started my long day.

After Cindy left for the day, I started cleaning up. Days when the shop was busy were the days that the evenings were peaceful. The bell over the door chimed.
"We're closed." I said
"Just hear me out please!" a masculine Italian voice said
I turned around.
He had olive toned skin, light green eyes, and light golden brown hair. He was taller than me, but had no visible muscle. He was wearing jeans and a green 'Up Town' hoodie.
"I need to speak with Ruth."
"My grandmother?"
He looked confused, but nodded anyway.
I narrowed my eyes.
Nala appeared and he looked stared at her with cautious eyes. She hissed.
I turned and finished what I had to then picked Nala up. I made him leave first then locked the door behind him. I started towards the house. The lights were off meaning Gram wasn't home.
I sighed and leaned on the counter, petting Nala's soft fur.
"So..." he trailed off
I looked at him.
"What's your name?" he asked
"Riley," I replied
"Riley." He repeated
