Pic of Jessamine - or Jessie - to the side

**RECAP** (in Seth's POV)

"Riley..." Jessie said, "Don't get him mad."

"Are you on his side now?" Riley asked in disbelief

"No!" Jessie answered, "I just don't want you getting hurt."

Riley's POV

"Damned demon," I said trying to vanquish it

He disappeared.

"Fu-udge," Seth said

I shook my head then slowly stood up.

"Where's Ben?" I asked cautiously

"Talking with the mayor," Jessie answered

I sighed.

We left the cave and Jessie challenged Seth to a race.

When I got to shallow water, I stood and walked out. I tossed my wet hair over my shoulder and continued to grab my towel.

The mayor, Ben, and Seth paused their conversation to stare at me.

"What?" I asked

Ben and Seth resumed said conversation.

"Hello Riley." the mayor said

I sighed and started to walk away.

"Where are you going?" Jessie said

"To join a volleyball match."

"He's our mayor, Ry, please just pretend to like him."

"Some friend you are!" I said walking away

"Riley..."

I looked up.

"You can't run forever," Seth said

"No, but I can not talk to that freak," I replied

He chuckled. "If you say so."

"Whatever."

"Want to join?" a girl asked me

I nodded. "See ya."

I was put in the front center. The girl who asked me to play was serving. I studied the other team. There was a blonde girl with pigtails, she looked like the weakest link. I made a mental note. The ball went over and they returned it. I spiked it over.

Score: one to zero.

We scored three more points before they got the ball. They didn't keep it for long each time they got it. It was my turn to serve. I knew how to play because we played in the gym at school sometimes.

I used all my strength to get the ball over the net. It went over and bounced by pigtails. She frowned and rolled the ball to me. I did it again but aimed between the back and front center people.

The team I was playing on one and I went over to Seth. He had a blonde practically on his lap and girls around him.

I sighed and rolled my eyes. "I knew it."

I turned on my heel and left. After that, I ignored both Jessie and Seth.

Sunday was spent packing my backpack for school. I attended Whitewater Academy, where we MUST wear a uniform. It's not all bad. I wore a navy blue plaid or gray pleat skirt, white or blue blouse, a navy sweater vest or blazer with the school crest on it, and a navy tie.
