** Recap **

(Riley's POV)

"Don't worry. I'll take good care of her."

I grabbed my necklace. I cast a spell then heard a scream.

** End of Recap **

(Seth's POV)

It's been a week since the incident and Riley's been in the hospital. The doctors said that she'll be awake by the time it's time to watch the fireworks on New Years.

Her father is devistated. He's worrying so much about her that he's not eating and sleeping much anymore.

Jessie and Travis are always by the house and hospital room. Jessie usually crying and Travis usually pacing or glaring at me.

Ruth, she's alright. She's trying not to worry so much. She's always down at the shop now. And if not then with Riley's dad.

Riley... she's just so pale. She looks like the life's been sucked out of her. She lays in the hospital bed sleeping and unaware of what's happening.

The Luchenes turned out to be big shots. They apparently owned the hospital. Giving Riley a private suite and longer visiting hours.

I visited her at night when her dad was either eating at the diner or with Penelope.

"Seth?"

"Yes?"

Donald walked in. He had dark circles under his eyes. "How's it going?"

"Good."

He nodded.

I put my bag down by my desk.

"You probably have homework." he said "I'll see you later."

I turned around.

There was a box wrapped in metallic orange paper on my desk.

I picked the box up and sat on my bed.

I read the card taped on it.

All it said in Riley's neat handwriting was To Seth.

I opened it.

A sweater in my favorite color; blue.

I grabbed my car key and went to the hospital.

A nurse walked out of Riley's room and smiled at me.

I walked in.

I took Riley's hand and sighed. "It's hard seeing you in this state. You don't deserve to be in a coma. I shouldn't have gotten into that fight with you. I blame myself for this, but... I promise you that I'll never do that again... I love you too much for that."

I left and went into the park.

This was too much. I couldn't take anymore.

"Seth? That you?"

Penelope sat next to me.

We started talking.

"New Years is tomorrow and she's not awake..."

"I know how you feel." she said "My best friends daughter was in a coma. I was hectic. She was only ten."

"How long was she in a coma?"

"Almost a month." Penelope said "The worst month ever. Without her smile or cheery laugh, it wasn't the same. Her mom almost went crazy."

I stayed silent.

She put her hand on my shoulder. "Sometimes life gives you chaotic ways to make you realize how much you need or love that person. It just means that you'll have to work harder to let them see how much you love them. Especially Riley."
