I smiled and took a deep breath and looked around sleepily. I hadn't slept that well in a while. I looked over next to me and grinned. Lilly was fast asleep cuddling with a stuffed bear. I chuckled quietly and pulled her close. She snuggled into me and smiled. I looked at my phone and saw it was a little after 6am. I decided I would cuddle with her and sleep for another hour or so.
My phone buzzed loudly and I sleepily reached for it. My eyes came into focus and saw it was well after 8. I sighed and checked the message. Lindsey send me a picture of Abby. I grinned staring at her chubby cheeks and bright blue eyes. I missed her like crazy. It was the only thing I missed about home.
Lilly had moved back over to her side at some point and I smiled kissing her shoulder lightly. Carefully sneaking out of bed I threw on a shirt and went out to the kitchen. A black and white dog greeted me happily. Crap! I forgot she had a dog...where the heck was it all night?? He threw himself against me wagging his tail. I loved dogs. I went over to the couch and sat down. He jumped on the couch and made himself comfortable on my lap waiting for pets. He was a cute black and white medium sized dog. Looked like a spaniel of some kind. I read his tag and smiled. Jack...now I know who Jack is.
Jack jumped down and sat patiently by a closed door. Curious I went over and opened the door. He ran in and sat next to a plastic bin next to the dryer. I peeked inside and saw dog food.
"So you're hungry? Alright. Well, where's your bowl?"
He ran out and scratched on a metal dog bowl in the corner of the kitchen area. Smiling I refilled his water bowl and gave him a few scoops of food. Speaking of food, I thought looking around. I wanted to do something nice for Lilly and surprise her. Quietly I opened the oak cabinets and pulled out a few items..Cinnamon, salt, vanilla, and pan spray. In the refrigerator I grabbed milk, eggs and butter. I scanned the room and finally found the bread and sugar. Where is syrup!?! There was one cabinet I hadn't tried. There it is!!
I was determined to make my famous French toast. Ok there was nothing famous about it. In fact it was regular every day French toast, but Lilly didn't need to know that. Smiling I whisked the ingredients together and dipped the bread and set it in the pan.
My mind wandered as I mindlessly made the French toast. I couldn't stop thinking about last night and how amazing it was. Lindsey didn't like for me to pin her hands down or tease the way Lilly let me. The more time I spent with Lilly the more I realized I had nothing in common with Lindsey anymore. If it weren't for Abby I wouldn't go home tomorrow night.
"Good morning."
I smiled seeing her standing sleepily in the hallway wrapped in a blanket
"Hi." She yawned. "What's this?"
"French toast a la chef Nick." I grinned
She giggled and wrapped her arms around me and watched me.
"It's gonna burn."
"Maybe I like it like that."
"Niiick" she laughed "let me help"
She reached for the spatula and I pulled it away and laughed. She laughed reaching for it
"Gimmie!!"
"No! Go away!!" I laughed
"It's burning!!"
"Crap"
I pulled off the piece and tossed it in the sink and glared at her playfully. She smiled at me and wrapped her arms around my waist. I loved her so much. She was so much fun to be around all of the time.
