I jumped into the creek, splashing water onto my pants. Stiles followed close behind.
"I don't know what it was. It was like I had all the time in the world to catch the ball. And that's not the only weird thing. I can hear stuff I shouldn't be able to hear. Smell things," I said.
"Smell things," Stiles said, laughing a little. "Like what?"
I inhaled then looked at Stiles. "Like Mint Mojito gum in your pocket."
We stopped walking. Stiles slipped his hand into his pocket. "I don't even have any Mint Mojito," he said, pulling out the piece of gum. He furrowed his eyebrows then looked at me. We continued walking.
"So all this started with a bite," Stiles stated.
"What if it's like an infection, like my body's flooding with adrenaline before I go into shock or something?" I said.
"You know what? I think I've heard of this. It's a specific kind of infection."
We both stopped again.
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah. Yeah, I think it's called lycanthropy."
"What's that? Is it bad?"
"Oh, yeah, it's the worst," Stiles replied bluntly. "But only once a month."
"Once a month?"
"Mmm-hmm. On the night of the full moon." Stiles howled.
I pushed Stiles playfully. "Hey, you're the one who heard a wolf howling," he said as we start to walk again.
I turned around to face him. "Hey, there could be something seriously wrong with me."
"I know! You're a werewolf!" Stiles growled. I looked at him and shook my head. "Okay, obviously I'm kidding. But if you see me in shop class trying to melt all the silver I can find, it's 'cause Friday night's a full moon."
We stopped walking again. "No, I could have sworn this was it. I saw the body, the deer came running." I squatted down, moving some leaves out of the way. "I dropped my inhaler."
"Maybe the killer moved the body."
I looked up at Stiles. "If he did, I hope he left my inhaler. Those things are like eighty bucks." I continued to look through the leaves.
Stiles quickly tapped on my shoulder, shoving his hands in his pockets. I got up and turned around quickly, seeing a man with dark hair, wearing a black leather jacket, standing there. He started to walk towards us.
"What are you doing here?" he questioned, looking pissed off. Stiles scratched the back of his neck. "Huh? This is private property," the guy said.
"Uh, sorry, man, we didn't know," Stiles said.
"Yeah, we were just looking for something but-" I said. The guy raised his eyebrows at me. "Uh, forget it." He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out my inhaler. He threw it to me and I caught it. I looked down at it as I heard the leaves ruffle as the guy walked away.
"Alright, come on, man, I gotta get to work," I said, looking over at Stiles, who had his mouth open.
He put his hand on my shoulder to stop me. "Dude, that was Derek Hale. You remember, right? He's only like a few years older than us."
