Derek and Scott came to a stop in front of Beacons Crossing Home.  They both climbed out of Derek's car.

"What are we doing here?" Scott asked.

Derek didn't answer as they entered the building.  They walked to the first door to the left.  Opening it, they entered the dark room where Scott could see a silhouette of a person sitting near the window.  They stopped next to the man and Scott eyed Derek.

    "Who is he?" he asked.

"My uncle," Derek replied.  "Peter Hale."

"Is he like you?  A werewolf?"

"He was.  Now he's barely even human.  Six years ago, my sister and I were at school.  Our house caught fire.  Eleven people were trapped inside.  He was the only survivor."

"So what makes you so sure that they set the fire?" Scott asked.

"'Cause they're the only ones that knew about us," Derek answered.

"Then they had a reason," Scott realized.

"Like what?" Derek glared at him.  "You tell me what justifies this."

Derek rotated his uncle's wheelchair so he was facing them.  Scott's eyes widened when he saw the right side of Peter's face was covered in scars.

"They say they'll only kill an adult and only with absolute proof," Derek stated.  "But there were people in my family that were perfectly ordinary in that fire.  This is what they do.  And it's what Allison will do."

"What are you doing?" a woman demanded from the doorway, causing them to look.  "How did you get in here?"

"We were just leaving," Derek said, grabbing Scott's arm and walking out of the room.

Allison stepped out of the back door quietly as she held her phone to her ear, waiting for Scott to pick up but it went to voicemail.

"Hey, um... I just thought maybe I could catch you before I went to sleep, but... I wanted to say sorry again for tonight.  So call me."

She went to turn around, but she stepped on something crunchy.  Lifting her foot, Allison saw glass on the driveway.  Furrowing her eyebrows she glanced forward at her aunt's car.  Little shards of glass sat on the driver's side windowsill, glistening in the moonlight.  Allison picked up a piece.

That's weird, she thought.  The window doesn't even have a scratch on it.

"The one that attacked me was big," Kate told her brother as she paced back and forth in the living room.  "It had width and power.  But the one I shot was lean and fast."

"Well, that would be Derek Hale," Chris said.

    "Are we sure?"

    "Mostly," he replied.

"How do we know it's just two of them?" she questioned.

"We don't yet," he answered, taking a sip of his scotch.  "But if Derek's still alive, he will lead us to the Alpha."

"Take the pack leader.  Then take the pack."

"And we do it according to the code," Chris reminded his sister.

"You and the code," Kate said, rolling her eyes.

"It's there for a reason, Kate."

"Of course," she said, picking up a match box from the mantle and lighting one.  She tossed it into the fireplace.  "I always play by the rules," Kate said, winking.
