Castiels POV:

We took Dean to the hospital, it took them a while to properly diagnose him because they didn't know what they were looking for.

First they checked out his stomach and found it flossed with blood to which they immediately pumped out.

All the while asking Bobby Sam and I invasive questions.

The nurse stood from where he sat and looked over his clip board once more.

"Okay thank you for your time, we will get back to you as soon as we learn anything." He began to walk away after shaking my hand.

He turned back last minuet,

"Castiel, about how much a day does he drink again?"

"About two to six bottles, but that's just the day, I have no idea about the night." I shrugged. "I don't really understand how that affects anything."

The nurse pushed up his glasses and turned back to the door.

I could tell he wanted to say more but he must have voted against it, because he just pushed open the door and left the room.

I wish he would have told me what he thought so I would have time for denial.

It was about three hours later when I finally learned what made Dean sick.

"I'm sorry." The doctor said worrying the pen she held. "I didn't want to have to tell you, but we can't ignore the facts."

I pressed my hands to my face.

Why him?

"He- he has- cancer?" I choked out.

"Liver." She confirmed. "Should I send the young man-" she checked her list "Sam in?" Bobby nodded from next to me and I grabbed Deans cold hand.

It didn't even feel like him. The Dean I knew was warm, and golden. Not cold and pale.

Sam burst through the doors but stopped short when he saw his brother.

He collapsed to his knees and wept.

"In sorry." The silent Bobby said.

"It-"

"I'm sorry Cas, that I didn't watch Sam better, that I gave that boy beer and whiskey, I just figured that, if I scolded him he wouldn't trust me, or he would go and get himself into trouble trying to obtain it illegally. But it turns out I got him in trouble-"

He turned to me tears rubbing down his face. "I killed him Cas." He began to say something more but I couldn't hear him through his tears.

"Bobby, no, you did not even begin to do this, if you want someone to blame, blame the person who turned him to drink. Blame the man- no- he's no man- blame his father. Not yourself, not anyone else."

Cancer.

The world is cruel.
