The treachery had once again reached the Baudelaires in their journey, but as I said before this time they wouldn't face it alone.
After Count Olaf's act in his new disguise, once more he managed to fool everyone and making the Baudelaires seem like liars.
At least the marvelous triplets didn't doubt the youngsters for a second as they as well as the Baudelaires were intelligent and resourceful children.
"Investigate further," Duncan yelled between the crowd.
"We demand that this issue gets further scrutiny," Isadora joined him.
Every other student remained silent, and Count Olaf—well, Coach Ghenghis—explained that he had a Special Orphan Running Exercises, or S.O.R.E for short. From which he obviously chose Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. Even today, said decision makes me think that it was destiny that he didn't chose Camille too. Later on that small change, would allow the Quagmires to help the selected Baudelaires.
They had to go everyday at sundown and run around a giant luminous circle. Sunny Baudelaire as an almost-toddler was still learning how to walk so she was really really tired when she and her siblings were forced to run.
As Count Olaf wasn't very clever he certainly didn't notice that somedays Camille would go with Klaus and Sunny rather than Violet, as they both had brown hair and they were almost the same height, to let her rest. However poor Klaus and dear Sunny didn't get this privilege.
At the cafeteria the Baudelaires and Quagmires always sat together, and even though three of the Baudelaires didn't make much conversation as they often tried to sleep on their trays, they enjoyed each other's company.
"I can't believe I flunk a test," Klaus said sleepily.
"Of course you were going to fail Klaus, you haven't gotten any sleep for at least a week," Isadora reassured him smiling, which again made him smile to his horrible circumstances and forget that he was tired for a minute.
You know, people often say that human contact can make you feel better and I believe that not only contact can do that but how the only Baudelaire boy just showed us, even with a smile and a reassuring comment, you can feel better.
"Klaus, don't worry! I don't even think this school keeps a record of who fails a quiz on Radom measurements," Camille told him, half hugging him since he was next to her and she was the more rested of them since 'Coach Ghenghis' forgot the Baudelaires were four children.
"Yes Klaus, I think I got only two or three answers right. Only because Camille had let me sleep last night, but I think I flunk too," Violet tried to make him feel better.
Klaus couldn't deal with the pressure. As a researcher, he couldn't stand the fact that he didn't know something.
Then, their already tired mood got worse when a certain redhead arrived at their table.
"I think we should head after lunch to the library..." Said Klaus yawning but got cut off by none other than Carmelita Spats.
"Cakesniffers talking about the library, is there anything less adorable?" The girl asked with her signature evil smirk.
"Go away Carmelita! We're not in the mood." Violet snapped back at her impolitely but we know Carmelita wasn't polite herself as she went around calling people cakesniffers.
"But... I'm here to deliver a special message to the Baudelaires!" She said with fake innocence as if she was doing nothing wrong.
She then started singing: "Viiice, Principal Nero wants to see you right awayyy, because he's very mad at you todayyy, I'm the cutest girl in tooown, and my name is Carmelitaaaaa," She ended.
