If the story of the Baudelaire orphans was a car trip, it would be unpleasant, uncomfortable and interminably long. As we know the lives of the four Baudelaire orphans had not been easy since their parents died in a mysterious fire that destroyed their home, and now it has gotten much, much worse, since the kidnapping of Klaus' twin sister Camille, while they were trying to rescue their two dear friends the Quagmire triplets. But as we go along the unpleasant ride, we also know that there is hope, which is something that the Baudelaires never lost. For example, when they were at Count Olaf's house, they found a way to save Violet and Sunny from his clutches. When they lived with Uncle Monty, they could not save him, but they saved themselves by always thinking it was possible to. They may have not saved aunt Josephine from the Lachrymose Leeches, but they taught her that she didn't have to be determined by her fears and that knowledge inspired them to escape and arrive to Pantryville, there Violet, Camille and Sunny thought they had lost their brother, but even then they saved him and a whole town from a sinister eye-doctor. At Prufrock they managed to pass their exams with help of the Quagmires and they managed to expose Count Olaf once again. They kept struggling and struggling, they saved their friends, but thought they ended up losing their sister. But you know, I'm not supposed to tell you this, LS will be mad at me, but hope does exist, and even in the dark lives of the Baudelaires and everyone that crosses their path, there's still that last thing you lose. HOPE. So even though there is hope I suggest you go and read something else, because I wouldn't want to be responsable for making someone cry.
"Wow! This car ride is interminably long!" Mr Poe said driving his small car with three of the Baudelaires and two of the Quagmires. "Who knew the Hinterlands were so far away?"
"That's why they're called Hinterlands." Klaus said, stating the obvious as always to Mr Poe.
"Well, no one likes the back seater right Klaus?" Mr Poe said offensively, leaving Klaus flabbergasted at his sudden rudeness.
"Anyways. It takes a village to raise a child!" He shouted excited. "What a lovely aphorism. An aphorism is a phrase that sounds mysterious, but in fact, is very wise." He said trying to teach them what they already know.
"We know what aphorism means." Violet said substituting Klaus' usual phrase.
"Then you'll know this one means 'the responsibility of raising young people belongs to every member of a community. That, children, is what's going to happen in the painteresque village of V.F.D!" Mr Poe said. "Instead of having one guardian that can be murdered or end up in cahoots with a villain, you'll get a whole town taking care of you. What could go wrong?"
"Ooh, I'll tell you what'd go wrong." Klaus said boiling in anger, trying to ignore the fact Mr Poe doesn't seem to remember his sister was kidnapped. But luckily Isadora hold him back from hitting Mr Poe or yelling at him.
"Mr Poe, everything's already wrong! All our parents and my brother are dead, a murderous and treacherous villain is following us because of our fortunes and the worst thing that could have happened, has happened, Camille was kidnapped by that same villain that was probably the orchestrator in some way to our parents and my brother misfortune." Duncan said agitated but trying to be calm.
"Yes, well, we're doing everything we can to find Camille Baudelaire, Dennis, but I don't see what good it does to think about it." Mr Poe said nonchalantly.
"That's it!" Klaus yelled.
"Klaus... don't." Violet warned him.
"No Violet, this is all HIS fault! It's your fault we were placed with Count Olaf, it's your fault Uncle Monty and Aunt Josephine are dead, it's your fault we had to escape from you and work in a lumber mill where I was hypnotized and almost killed someone, it's your fault the Quagmires were kidnapped from Prufrock and ITS YOUR FAULT THAT MY SISTER CAMILLE WAS KIDNAPPED BY THAT MONSTER THAT YOU PUT US WITH IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!" Klaus half said half yelled. I haven't seen him this red before, except for the time Isadora gave him a kiss at Prufrock; he seemed like he would explode.
"Excuse yourself Klaus Baudelaire, you have no right to yell to an adult." Mr Poe defended.
"Mr Poe, I think it's time you let it be, if you don't want him to yell at you anymore." Isadora said bitterly to Mr Poe while she hugged Klaus tightly, he was inhaling and exhaling trying to low his rage, but he wasn't able to. He just couldn't take it anymore. Mr Poe's uncaring comments, it has driven him to an edge.
"Vitrewopagyiu." Sunny said pulling Violet's arm. Something that probably meant "Violet, Klaus is really affected by Camille, what are we going to do with Mr Poe?"
"I don't know Sunny, but we will find her and without Mr Poe's helpless kind of help."
"Violet, I think we are here." Duncan said softly and signaled to a dirty and small town through the window.
"Here we are!" Mr Poe said when everyone was out of the car.
The town was dusty, dirty and boring, it was a dry county, but it actually seemed as if the dry wasn't just for alcohol but also water, as you know fountains often contain secrets in its waters, where many wishes had been thrown inside with coins; at V.F.D the children found themselves in a small square with a big gold fountain of crow, that as I said, was completely and totally dry.
"The town of V.F.D! You have a meeting with the council of elders in the city hall. I must be going now if I want to get to the opera with my wife. Good luck Violet, Klaus, Sunny, Dennis and Iphigenia!" Mr Poe then turned around and left in his small car.
"Will he ever remember our names?" Duncan asked no one in particular.
"I don't know Dennis, what do you think? If he keeps calling Count Olaf, Count Omar." Isadora said sarcastically.
"Right." Duncan replied.
"Well, let's go." Klaus said impatiently.
"Coming!" Isadora told him while she caught up with him and then interlaced their fingers.
"What do you think happened between them?" Duncan asked Violet in a whisper as their siblings were ahead of them.
"They kissed, Klaus asked Isadora if she wanted to be his girlfriend and she as we see said yes." Violet stated as if it was obvious.
"Did they tell you that? Because if they did I'm offended I didn't know." Duncan said while putting his hand on his heart.
"No, but I'm sure that's what happened. I know Klaus, he would never have let Isadora leave after kissing without her being his girlfriend. And since they seem to like each other so much since we met at Prufrock then I suppose that's the truth." Violet said sure as if it was an invention she was talking about.
While the children were having individual conversations between them (Duncan and Violet, Isadora And Klaus), they entered the dusty city hall and found themselves walking into a kind of courtroom where in the front were three old people that were wearing a hat with a crow in them, it also seemed as if the rest of the town was there too.
The children moved towards the platform in the center of the big room, a place where rules will rain.
