There are more, and they are much worse

"Ana, let me help you." Steve said, Ana looked up from the cloth and her foot and shook her head.

"I'm fine." Ana grumbled, her ankle hurt and this was the only way she was going to be able to walk. Steve walked forward and crouched in front of her and gently took the cloth from her hands. Ana sighed and leaned backwards.

"You can ask for help, Ana. You don't have to do it yourself." Steve whispered, Ana looked down at him and let a tear run down her face. HYDRA never patched her up, she had to learn to help herself. Steve unwrapped her work and started rewrapping it.

"Steve, were the men that held us HYDRA?" Ana asked. Steve shook his head and carried on tying the cloth.

"They were the American government. They believe that your father set off a bomb in Vienna." Ana let off a string of protests but Steve stopped her, "I know you didn't, that you weren't there. But they think that and unfortunately I can't change their minds."

Ana gave him a small smile even though he wasn't looking at her. They stayed in comfortable silence until something nagged at Ana's brain that she couldn't let go of it.

"Steve? Would my mama be proud of me?" Ana asked, breaking the silence. Steve stopped dressing her ankle and looked her in the eyes. He let go of the wrapping and grabbed her hands and held the in his.

"Of course she would, you didn't see each other for a while and this wasn't the best way to meet again but that doesn't mean anything. She is very proud of the person you have come, Ana. Don't forget that." Ana smiled and Steve stood up quickly and kissed her on the head before bending back down to finish dressing her foot.

"Steve, who is she?" Ana asked, pointing to the blond woman who saved her. Steve finished the dressing and stood up. He held out his hand and Ana grasped it, he pulled her up and helped her walk over to Sam.

"... we could call Kayla. She could convince Tony?" the blond woman suggested. Steve helped Ana stand next to him, he had a grip on her shoulder while she tried to find her footing.

"We can't... I don't want to involve her in this mess. She promised me she would rest." Sam said. He gave Ana a wink and a small smile. Ana grinned at him and looked at Steve.

"Who's Kayla?" Ana asked quietly. She clamped a hand over her mouth, she wasn't supposed to speak. Steve gave a heartbreaking sigh and Sam chuckled and placed a hand on her thin shoulder.

"My girlfriend."

"Then why are you so sad?" Ana asked before she could stop herself. Sam looked down and the woman answered for him.

"She's afraid of herself and her powers, Sam doesn't want to involve her in this, he's just afraid she'd get hurt. He's just being a baby. Sorry, I never introduced myself while we were kicking ass, I'm Jamie." Ana nodded, knowing exactly what she means. Ana smiled and shook her hand. Sam scowled and hit Jamie on the shoulder.

"Rude. I'm just watching out for her." Sam scowled. Jamie pulled a hamster face and Sam scowled again. Ana looked at the interaction with interest, she's never had someone to pull faces at besides her father and he didn't really appreciate them.

"You are a baby, Sam. You are a baby, Sam." Jamie teased, she walked in circles around Sam. Ana looked up at Steve and saw him give Sam and Jamie a roll of the eyes and disappointed look.
